I get the feeling Wagler's placement in these mocks would look entirely different if he was the top 20 prospect coming in out of HS compared to his peers who haven't played as well as him.

Wagler is a lottery pick. These mocks will catch up.

I saw another that had him 9. That seems a little high right now, but he might get there. There is no way he stays - at minimum he is a borderline lottery pick.

All our NBA draft experts jump all over anyone who says Mullins should stay another year. I'm of the opinion another year in college could be good for Mullins. But it always seems like the draft experts on the board are correct. At least they were with McNeeley and Castle.

It’s all about guaranteed contracts and getting the clock going on the bid money second contract

Everyone is talking past each other on this.

"Would Mullins's game benefit from another year in college?"

is a completely different question from

"Given the financial incentives for leaving, with where he's expected to be drafted, and risks associated with returning, would he actually stay?"

The former is "probably." The latter is "extremely unlikely."

Braylon is gonna be a steal. He is just starting to show how talented he is. I think he’s every bit as good as Wagler it’s just that injury set him back a little

What is he making here?

Of course it would be good for him. He'd improve a lot if he stayed.

He's also looking at a ballpark of 10 million guaranteed money. There's just not a lot of sense in staying. He could get an injury like Mamadou that means he never plays again--you never know.

An NBA mock draft the first week of February is meaningless
That, and I think past the first 5-7 obvious, there are so many good players in the draft, it ends up being in the eye of the beholder/need. Draft order will dictate some of it.

He will be 20 at draft time. Right age to go. He is older than Flagg by more than half a year. When I went to college most kids were 18, do most players (or a lot) catch an extra year in high school to help college recruitment status? This makes Flagg even crazier.

28 seems super low but the guys mock actually didnt look bad when going through.

I think its more important to go as high as possible, for team investment and to make an impact right away. If he has a ten year career better that it starts a year later. He should talk to Clingan and McNeeley, two cases for staying.
Hawkins didn’t need to stay another year. But another case of the type of investment a team is willing to make based on where you’re drafted.

In hindsight, McNeeley and Hawkins could have stayed one more year.

AK dipped twice and came back.

Mullins I would say is 85% gone and factoring that for our portal needs for next season, but man if he stays one more year...

The dangerous thing about this draft is that there’s so much talent. It would be so easy to slip unexpectedly. This first round is so loaded.

*Once, AK only went through the pre-draft process after his sophomore year

The first 20-25 picks are loaded, then it eases up a bit to where you mind find some of the better upperclassmen go.

Yes, this does change the calculus versus 10 years ago, and frankly is why we've gotten 4 years of Alex Karaban instead of 2.

But it's not going to be the same for Mullins, who will make considerably more as a 1st round pick.

Fair, last year I think he just took a little more time to make his decision though.

That ain't happening - he's going top 20 minimum.
That's what they said about McNeeley about being a lotter pick. If he gets NIL money plus tev share it may be more than a pro contract. That's why people are suing to play college ball to get eligibility. This is happening both in football, look at Aguilar and Chambliss. Katraban did that last year too. He will realize that and stay, that's my bet.

That's a heckuva bet. I was once mildly in your camp, but now that I've seen him play and where his buzz is, it's a safe bet that he's outta here.
