Nope. Sprint Football, which you are describing pretty accurately is a completely different sport. They open the season at Cornell on the 17th.

JV team plays a five game schedule: against one juco and some post-grad prep programs, including two against Naval Academy Prep School (NAPS is up in Newport RI).
A lot of plebe and sophmore QBs started camp behind Smith and Worth. You see the co-#3s getting backup and JV time, two more will run the scout offenses, some more will move to slot back, receiver, or defense...
The Navy roster lists 150+ players. And you think that we double up on a lot of #'s.

So I gather the Academies don't do medical RS's?

Navy hasn't done one in a decade.
Air Force's starting QB this season rolled back a year after injury.
Couldn't tell you off the cuff about Army, but I had a West Pointer co-worker last year STILL pissed about Napoleon McCallum.

The decision in theory is not about your sport at all but whether injury keeps you from class and midshipman stuff for a semester or year. Mechanics of it look like withdrawing from the Academy and re-entering.

Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo: “We’ll see. It didn’t look good Saturday. We’re preparing for the worst.”

Can we get an update on Tommy Hopkins?

UConn coach Bob Diaco said OG Tommy Hopkins will miss time due to lower leg injury. Brendan Vechery will start vs. Navy

More in UConn @ Navy Game Week thread...

Every team seems to have 3-4 QBs who are virtually interchangable. Doubt they're too hurt.

We know a family who had a son that played at Army about 10 years ago.

He got hurt in the 1st or 2nd game of the season. His injury was enough that he not only missed the rest of the season but he was sent home because he couldn't participate in normal cadet activities either. He was only allowed back at academy when he was fit.

I asked him about RS & he said they didn't do that at Army. Maybe they've changed since then
