Why is Navy's offense gimmicky? Nebraska used to win national championships with "gimmick" offenses. And why is a triple option offense any more gimmicky than, say, an uptempo 5-wide offense?

Bottom line: each team will (and should) run whatever they think best fits their personnel so that they can win football games. Obviously, Navy is doing it right.

Is this a threat? Don't disagree with Sportsart or face his mighty wrath in the stands?

Just in case you are serious, I'm pretty sure Pudge smiled when he read that.

Sorry Sportsart. I love Navy. Everything about them. The fact they can compete with undersized athletes who will go on to serve our country. The fact that they found an offensive formula to allow them to compensate. And they are brilliant at it. And how do you account for such a gutty defense able to stay with more gifted talent. Its amazing. And just like our fans, on every third down when Memphis needed to stop them, there was a collective disbelief. I've said that the only teams that beat us this year were Cincy and Navy. Both are outstanding. But we now have a shot to shock the world. I love our chances.

I also know what you look like and where you tailgate. :D (I put in the smiley face for Trest) I agree with your sentiment about Navy in terms of undersized and serving our country. I did give them credit for holding Memphis to 20 points. They are a very good overall team. Just hate their offensive style (non traditional and not gimmicky...grin).

By the way...I'll be bringing Cougar kaboobs for the next tailgate. (Tastes like chicken)

I saw Cougar Kaboobs dance the other night. If I set up a pole at my tailgate, will you bring her by for a bit?

Did anyone see this one coming? How does it change the bowl bids for the AAC?

People have been underestimating Navy with a healthy Reynods. Although, in fairness, that was Navy's first win of any quality all year.

As long as the AAC produces a champion with not more than 2 losses, which should happen, I still expect it to take the G-5 major bowl bid. But good luck picking amont Temple, Houston, Navy and Memphis.

Thanks. What do you think is better for the future and notoriety for the conference, one undefeated leader or a couple 1-2 loss teams? A lot of depth atop the conference or one stand out with a few beating each other up?

Right now? Undefeated champ that wins a NY6 bowl and would be, at least, in the Playoff discussion. Unfortunately, Memphis was that team after they beat up on a SEC team who, forever whatever reason, people think holds significant weight. AAC needs to build up to that point (Playoff consideration) to be taken seriously. After that, and assuming the undefeated team doesn't bolt for a power conference at first chance, then a couple of 1 loss teams would be okay.

We all know Houston is going down up here on 11/21 so the undefeated dream is gone.

Future and noteriety? Doesn't make a bit of difference. Geting the G-5 bid matters 'cos it adds money.

ITT: Sportsart backpedals into crying us a river because Navy doesn't play "traditional" football, in a world of spread offenses, read options with QBs running as much as they throw, and shotguns with three backs.

All while ignoring that Navy's style, mostly running, was the traditional style before the forward pass was invented. Navy runs as a traditional offense as you can find in the sport (and have been doing so for duck knows how long), just now with superior athletes compared to those who played during the origins of the sport.

Glad I was a part of this hilarious thread. Don't let it die too fast, guys. Or get it sent to the Cesspool too fast, Uconnphil2016.

A little dramatic don't you think. If you think Navy runs a traditional offense, good for you. I'm talking about the current offenses, not the past. Drop back QB's, spread offenses and and dual QB/read offenses are what I consider modern times and traditional offenses.

I just expressed my opinion and agreed Navy was the better overall team vs Memphis. Stop with the crying a river, over the top crap.

Memphis had no chance at the playoffs anyways

Prior to the game (and assuming Ole Miss had beaten Arkansas), they absolutely had a chance to be #4. In the event Memphis went 13-0 and Ole Miss had ended up winning the SEC championship (which no longer can happen because they lost against the razorbacks), and Baylor finished 11-1 after losing to either TCU or OKS, Memphis would be in the playoff.

Once again, they lost to Navy, Ole Miss lost to Arkansas, so this will absolutely not happen, but prior to 6pm on Saturday this was a complete possibility that wasn't really a pipe dream.
