There has been talk on here about how UCONN is not a contender for the National Title. Which I find odd as this is a UCONN fan website.... Losing three games to the #1 and 2 teams in the nation. The two losses to the #2 team were by 1 point and then in triple overtime without two of our starters for any of the overtimes. The loss to #1 Baylor... that was a close game until the end. OF course many believe that Griner should have been ejected but that is neither here nor there. While it was something like a 6 point loss it was close until the end and only ended up being that large of a margin because we had to foul.

But I wanted to ask this question. Some have said UCONN cannot do it this season. Okay, to be honest I would love it if they could but I do not know if it is possible myself. Personally I think this is Baylor's year yet again because of Griner. Notre Dame will not beat Baylor.

So that being said. How many of you think this is Baylors title to lose?
I know this is weird but I would rather see Kim Mulkey get her third title than to see Muffet win a second.

I think it's Baylor's NC to lose. But I'm not counting the Huskies out. The major problem is that down the stretch of close games, our guard play has not been as good as either ND's or Baylor's.

Oh, without a doubt. When you return as much as Baylor did from an undefeated team, yes, the title is theirs to lose.

Ditto huskybill's response. Baylor is the defending national champion with all of the players returning. Then again, Georgetown did not defend in 1985, UNLV did not defend in 1991. UConn did not defend in 2001. Just sayin...

Also ditto Wally East's response.

In my view, here's the pecking order:

Baylor with a small but real gap over ND and UConn

ND with a tiny, tiny but also real edge over UConn

Then a medium, but perhaps not insurmountable gap, followed by Stanford and Cal

Then a large gap followed by Duke

Then a small gap and Kentucky, PSU, Maryland, and Tenn, in no particular order.

Then the rest, none of which has any real shot at the Final Four.

I think Baylor is the favorite, but funny things happen. I don't think ND matches up well with them because Sims can outplay Diggins and Griner can take away all those crazy drives into the lane.

I hope this doesn't happen, but I can see a scenario in which we beat Baylor in the semis and lose to ND in the finals. Ugh! Ugh! Beyond distasteful!

IMHO its Baylor's championship to lose and they're the outright favorites. However, the team that can beat Baylor is UConn. In order for UConn to win the guards and Stewart have to contribute more then they did last night. Get contribution from all 5 players on the court, then UConn can beat Baylor. If it ends up like last night when in crunch time, there were only two players looking to shoot, then it won't happen.

Don't want to meet up with ND in the tournament no matter what happens in the Big East tournament.

I think that this is 100% Baylor's NC to lose. But I do not see why after a 3OT loss, Uconn fans are now frantic and panicking. We have 3 losses to the best opponents possible. All were close. All were in Uconn's grasp. I think it is clear uconn has the talent and the ability but lacks the mental stamina. Geno has time to prepare this team, and I think he will. Uconn is now more of an underdog compared to Baylor and ND. Could work to their advantage. I would really enjoy seeing how opinions will change if Uconn wins the Big East Tournament. I think they are young, and still have time to tie up the loose ends. All it takes is a few special performance.

In summary, this is a three team race. BAYLOR, ND, and UCONN. Which one will play the best two games in the final four is the real question.

I agree that we are in the mix, but having lost 80% of the 50-50 games, we need to prove that we can win one over a team better than SJU or Louisville.

We need 40 minutes of UConn basketball, not 30 or even 39:55.

If Creme's brackets hold up and we meet Stanford in the FF, and ND meets Baylor - I think it's us and Baylor in the NC game. UCONN has never lost an NC game. I think they have the skill to beat Baylor, but that doesn't often translate to winning the game...as we saw last night against ND. But, I like our chances against Baylor, more than against ND. My round-about way of saying it's Baylor's to lose.

As has been noted, ND doesn't match up well against Baylor.
I think we have a better chance against Baylor than ND has.

But to get to Baylor, we're going to have to beat ND (which IS
doable). No way the committee is going to pair us up with
Stanford in the semifinals.

I'm just talking about Creme's brackets as they stand now. Who knows what the committee will do???

It is Baylor’s NC to lose but if there is any team that can make it real difficult for them it's UConn (ND lost by about 20 the final last season and this season will loss by another 20-30 if they get to the final as they just don't have answers for Baylor’s size). Unfortunately, to get to the final we'll have to beat ND and in a big game as such the seniors are playing a key role and ND got Diggins, the mental toughness and the feeling that they own UConn (6 out of the last 7 games is a pattern of dominance even if it's by few points).

Actually we still OWN Notre Dame 29-10...

I don"t think it's relevant as we don"t have DT or Maya who were beating ND on a regular basis. They have Diggins who's record against UConn in the last 2 years is 5-1.

We've shown we can play with anyone.

We haven't shown we have the fortitude to actually pull out the W.
