Watched Nat'l Semi again today and: It is a nit really, I know, but I cannot figure out what Little Miss Muffet was thinking about in the last 2 minutes in relation to Skylar Diggins and keeping her in the game. You may recall that with about 45 seconds left Geno had the team take a voluntary shot clock violation and Diggins finally was taken out. Was Notre Dame out of time outs? Did Geno rub Muffet's nose in it, including his special words for Diggins in the post game team hand shake? Was Muffet telling her special player: "You want to be this ordinary in the NC, then be ordinary 'til the final buzzer." Or was Muffet simply in a daze at the end? Of course, the thing drawing the attention to this is Geno signaling to take the shot clock violation.

I vote Muffet was in a daze. Carol Owens stood up to say something to Muffet as the shot clock was winding down. Perhaps she suggested to Muffet that removing Diggins before the final buzzer would be an appropriate gesture.

I was wondering the same...I watched this game by now so many times (one of the most enjoyable games to watch that I have :)) and the facial expressions of Muffett in those last minutes are interesting as it seems that she is struggling to answer that question of when to take Diggins out. Luckily for her, Geno answered her question for her :)

And it is possible Muffett was in a daze as I'm sure she didn't expect that beat down considering how well ND did against UConn in the last 3 seasons

I thought that perhaps Diggins didn't want to come out of the game and call attention to herself. She probably didn't feel she deserved it given the game's result. Perhaps Geno sensed her state of mind since he suggested she not let the game define her career. A classy and astute comment on his part.

Interesting. I do not know if I would have comes to this conclusion though. I think Muffet left her in to see if she could score more, to tack on to her Notre Dame stats. I think that even thought Geno had the second subbed at the end of the game he still had some pretty talented players out on that court. Our second string is too good to be considered a second string. As for Diggins not wanting to draw attention to herself, the way she plays, the way she acts on the court would lead me to believe that she has no issue calling attention to herself. While a great player her ego was rather large (IMHO).

UCONN dismantled Notre Dame in the semi. It was the largest margin of victory between these teams since UCONN beat Notre Dame in the regular season in 2011 if I am not mistaken. I think Muffet was shell shocked and did not know what to do, and probably did not want to look at Skylar and have to deal with that moment where she would have to say "Sorry you did all this and did not get a national title"

I never get tired of watching that game.
Fav moments.

1. Kelly's block on Sky picked up by Bria who sprints the court and splits the D to hit a pull-up for her 5th point in about ten seconds and perhaps let it be known who was to win this game.

2. Among splendid plays from the freshman sensation, Stewie's drive from the left side, elude the defender and float it in… virtuoso.

3. Sky's attempt to cover or wave off the TV camera as the end approached.

I don't think Bria has gotten enough credit for her timely achievements. Whenever the offense went flat, Bria would take responsibility and score…The 3 just prior to #1 above and the gillions of foul shots at the end. She served the same function in the championship game.
