National reaction

What Leebo thought maybe but that's not what he said. AD Dave didn't let it become part of the narrative. I'm glad the guy admitted he misspoke.

He didn't explicitly say one way or the other, the interpretation of the "they" was up to context. So it's not surprising the Boneyard got insecure about it, but yeah.

Started reading the 'yard during the dark days of the Ollie tenure, glad to be around when things are finally trending up! I don't think any team in the country wants to see us in the tourney.

Last year all 10 teams were in the Top 94 of KenPom. If the tournament weren't cancelled they would have gotten 5-7 bids, and BracketMatrix had them with two 2s and a 3 seed.

Villanova, Creighton, and Seton Hall all tied for the regular season conference title.

There was ample competition.

Villanova has been better than the other teams, but all their best records were posted in the first few years after the Old Big East ended. We hit the league in a down year. It's recruiting well and its worst team—DePaul—would typically be favored over the worst teams of other leagues.

But Nova has won every regular season title, that does say something

The other programs may be second weekend good occasionally, but we aim higher

Kansas won every Big 12 regular season title for 14 straight years and everyone still considered it a strong conference. Someone dominating a conference =\= a conference being weak

And Kansas has the only two titles the conference has won in the modern era (64 team field). ACC and Big East teams own

the last 7 titles
the last 10 out of 11
the last 16 out of 21

Current members

ACC 10 / 8 (8 as ACC members)
Big East 6 / 8 (6 currently, 7 as Big East members, 1 as American Conference)
SEC 3
B10 1
B12 1

There's a reason for East Coast Bias

I only went back to 1999

But the Big 12 also had multiple final four participants.

The Big East didn't get a chance last year, but the conference had multiple other teams that were slated to get 2s and 3s (Creighton and Seton Hall).

2014 and 2015 were years where the conference lacked depth. It makes sense, the strongest teams besides Nova left. But they largely caught up. Nova won the league last year...in a three-way tie at 13-5.

Norlander's one of the good ones. If he meant the fanbase, absolutely guilty as charged.
We (the fanbase) were not begging for the BE. We were begging to be led out of the purgatory that is the AAC though. Some wanted the ACC. A few wanted the Big10. Most just wanted out of the hinterlands conference. The NBE ended up being the perfect landing spot for us.
