Napheesa Played Like "Stewie Junior" vs. FSU...

Stewie played another incredible game, doing everything a player can do to help her team win. And while Stewie, Moriah and Morgan received the game accolades they aptly deserved, I thought Napheesa was absolutely outstanding and gave us a glimpse into a future UConn star.

Napheesa's stats: 6 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks, 2 assists. That was almost like Stewie's game in microcosm.

Napheesa was super aggressive and disruptive on defense, often playing one of FSU's smaller, quick guards up top. Her long reach and aggressive 'D' (along with the best tandem of defensive guards in the game, Moriah and Kia), made life miserable for FSU's guards who struggled to run offense, managed to shoot only 10-28 (35%) and turned the ball over 18 times!

With a short bench that required she play extended minutes (32) and presented with her first opportunity to start, Napheesa stepped up BIG TIME. She responded like a champion.

Rule, I too thought that Napheesa held her own very well in her first start......Geno seems to be trying to develop his depth by rotating Gabby , KLS , and Napheesa in that 5th spot to see how his young players respond in pressure situations. I think they have responded very well.

By March I think the Huskies will have a solid and productive bench with little drop off when the subs are on the floor.

Very impressive indeed and on both ends of the court...defensively she needs a bit of work on boxing out but other than that her long wingspan , BB IQ and athleticism will make her a steal and rebounding machine.....on offense, she seems to defer to upperclassmen( who wouldn't given who they are) but once she gets her confidence she will be an automatic double double.....by the way, great play when Mo found her in the post , Napheesa quickly realized she didn't quite have position on her defender and kicked right back out to Mo who drained a three...good stuff

I thought Napheesa would bounce back after an uneven outing against ND. And she proved me right; good for her and good for us fans! All the people worrying about next year - feel better?

Hey Rule - totally agree. Stewie plays incredible and Collier does the Stewie Lite thang. Yes, it is Proof that a player is everywhere -- a complete stat sheet. If one adds up Collier's Positive Plays - rebs, assts., blocks, steals, and pts (50%); Collier has a PP factor of 18. Bulgat (who I think is listed as one of the top 25 players) only scored a 16 on the PP line. Thomas came out at a 14.
I think it is very clear who had more effect on the game. Points are too over-rated. Also, one dimensional players can be shut down because they only have one dimension to focus on. Collier, like Stewie and the rest of the Huskies, contribute in multiple areas--over and over again. Yes, it must be the genius of Geno/CD/ & staff.
As an aside, I factored in negative plays of turn-overs & personal fouls---and Bulgat drops down to an 8 net Positive plays. Collier only dropped to a 16.
I know this is just one unique measure of play. However, IMHO it gives a fuller version of the Big Picture & of course, Team Play!
