Napheesa Collier is almost exactly like Stewie. She is the tallest kid on her team at 6’1” and is a prolific scorer & rebounder. She is also the focus of the defense against every team Incarnate Word plays. Collier is fouled, grabbed, pushed, elbowed and double & triple teamed. Just like Stewie. Consider her stats:

1. Collier has scored 797 points in 30 games, a 26.6 pt average. Another kid is averaging 12.3 pts, then a third is at 5.9 per game. If you want beat the Red Knights, shut down Collier. But they can’t..! Napheesa shoots 71% from the field on 448 shots and 80% from the free throw line (154-192). How much do other teams beat up on Collier? She leads the team in free throw attempts w/ 192, more than the next four players combined..!!

2. Napheesa is also like MoJeff. She leads the team w/ 125 steals. The next two kids have 111 combined. She also has 80 assists, 2nd on the team. Her assist-to-turnover ratio is right around 3, just like MoJeff. She takes good care of the ball.

3. Candidly, when it comes to blocking shots, she is kind of like Kiah Stokes. Collier has 126 blocks for a 4.2 per game average. One of her team mates has 16 blocks, 2nd most on the team. And Napheesa blocks shots from kids she isn’t even covering, with both hands, just like Kiah.

4. Collier leads the team in rebounding, as well as everything else. She has great hops, kind of like Gabby Williams. Her 156 offensive rebounds leads the team by 120. Many of those rebounds go right back up for easy points. Just like Gabby. At the defensive end, her 229 rebounds are almost 150 better than the next player. That’s 385 rebounds in 30 games..!!

So basically, UConn is getting a player who scores like Stewie, assists & steals like Jefferson, blocks shots like Stokes and jumps like Gabby.
Oh, and she is humble, well spoken and a team player. Wow..!!

Go Huskies..!!

P.S. Don't even mention the competition is only in high school. She dominated on Team USA w/ Wilson from S. Carolina & Turner from N.D.

I watched the Youth Olympic Games 3x3 championships last summer when the US team included Ogunbowale, Boykin, Samuelson and Collier...was tremendously impressed with Collier. To use an old basketball cliche, she has a motor that doesn't quit and seems to be one of the kids that is just always around the ball. Reminded me of a slighter Maya Moore...similar athletic skills, just not quite as large a frame as Moore. I'll be really surprised if she isn't a 1st team AA at least a couple of times.

Fantastic analysis!

With KML and Kiah moving on this year, I'm stoked about the four new ladies that will be donning Huskie uniforms next year as replacements.

I watched as well. And I feel the same as you. Yea, it's going to be fun watching this group next year as we pursue Geno's 11th championship.

Great post David.....I agree totally with the analysis. It's my assessment that if the competition doesn't beat the Huskies now , and I do mean right now , next season could be a nightmare for all comers with the firepower being added with the addition of Collier , KLS , Boykin , and Butler. Huskies lose only KML and Stokes. A lot , but we gain a lot more IMHO .

Napheesa is no mini Maya. She will be great player in her own right. Most ready of the incoming freshman. UConn will be loaded next year. Breanna, Moriah, Morgan, Kia, Gabby, Saniya, Courtney, Natalie, Napheesa, Katie Lou and De'Janae. What a roster!

Totally agree with this. Yes we lose KML and Stokes, but NO ONE is adding as much as UCONN is. Samuleson, Collier and Boykin from the 2015 class and Butler technically joins the 2014 class. The gap between UCONN and everyone else honestly will be even larger next year than this year.

I love how SC fans think they have a shot next year. Truth is losing Welch AND Ibiam and literally add no one as a freshman. Yes they will be really good, but nowhere near as good as UCONN. I think ND will be the #2 team in the nation and it will be a battle between Baylor, SC and Tennessee for the next 3 spots.

Welch is the player who gives SC toughness. They will really miss her.
