Pheesa 24.jpeg

Napheesa Collier will finish her brilliant UConn career this season, as one of two seniors, along with her best buddy Katie Lou Samuelson. It seems like just yesterday Pheesa was a wide-eyed freshman watching and helping Stewie and MoJeff capture their 4th straight National Championship. She is now the senior role model and leader of the newly underdog Huskies. Her stats are deceptively impressive, particularly the point, rebound and blocked shot totals. ;)

1. Points - Collier currently sits in 20th place on UConn's all-time scoring list with 1,609 points. If she were to match last year's total of 597 points, Pheesa would graduate in 5th place all-time. The point total of 2,206 would actually be 4th, but one can assume KLS will move up as well. (Currently 14th, with 1,712 points)

2. Blocked shots - Currently 8th all-time on UConn's blocked shot list, Napheesa could challenge Maya (204) and Stef Dolson (254) and move into 6th place. To get past both, she would need 68 blocks, 5 more than last season's 63. Two years ago, she led the team with 77 blocks.

3. Rebounds - Despite being undersized and always matched against taller opponents, Pheesa has an even 700 career rebounds. Her improvement has been impressive with seasons of 197, 228 and 275 total boards. Currently just out of the top 15 all-time rebounders, a season of 238 rebounds would place Collier in 8th place all-time, behind Gabby Williams.

Finishing 5th in scoring, 6th in blocks and 8th in rebounds would place Napheesa in the special company of Maya, Stewie and Tina, who currently sit 1, 2 and 3 in scoring, 7, 1 and 5 in blocks and 2, 4 and 1 in rebounds. What a great group in which to add the classy and smooth as silk Napheesa. :)

Go Huskies..!!

.......And keep in mind that she did all of this without even starting her Freshman year.

I think Pheesa is going to have her best year yet in 2018-2019. As a senior, she'll be experienced, confident and mature. I also expect her to be selected to the WBCA All-American team. If they run plays for her that has the post player at the top of the key thus opening up the lane and allowing her to drive or post up under the basket, she's going to be a match up nightmare for a lot of teams, like she was her sophomore year.

Let's not forget, she has a nose for the ball, and she's not bashful about crashing the boards. With Gabby and Z's departure, it would also not surprise me if she is the team's leading rebounder this year. IMHO, she still has the best hands on the team. You seldom see her fumble entry passes, even if they are less than perfect. Her moniker going into her final season could very easily be "gets buckets". She's going to be fun to watch this season. :p

I too look for great things from Napheesa..........she's going to have to be at her All-American best to help the team to another Final Four............hopefully she will be greatly assisted up front by a long, tall freshman who could be an even better rebounder and shot blocker.........with all of the bigs up front in their non conference schedule, I expect those two to log a whole lot of minutes next season.........
