“The effort and play of Saniya, I thought it was the difference,” Coach Geno Auriemma said.

So, "The Core Four" is out? Agreed? "The Jive Five" won't do. I'm being dragged to a Spring Home Show. I expect to see brilliant suggestions when I return. :)

Best thing that has happened on the court this tear. Saniya's redemption.

For the mathalete: The Dirty Dozen Minus Seven

For the doom and gloomers: The Four Horsemen AND The Apocalypse!

For the 'its Christmas every day' crowd: The Five Golden Rings

For the comic book crowd (or our Arsenal fan base): The Invincibles

For fans of Middle Earth: The Five Armies

For our new agers: The Five Elements

For our gamers: The Five Gods

For our paleontologists: Mass Extinction (there have been five major ones)

For the media: The Answers (five basic questions: what, when, where, who, why)

For our martial artists: The Five Rings

For our sociologists: The Truths (five universal truths)

For our Kungfu film junkies: Five Deadly Venoms

Word play for our comrades: The Year Five Plan

For simplicity: Uconn!

The final 4 wbb game is on my tV right now---Stanford Vs Uconn Turner, Strother, Wolfe, Mel Thomas,Swania??, Willnet, , Charde, Battle --BT is keeping Uconn in the game against Wiggins--
Core 4 is terrible---that's an insult to Saniya and even Danger---The Connecticut Constants---Hot Women---Brawling Ballers---
Geno's Ever Presents---The Italian Stallion's Studs-- Geno's Gunners---Sticking Six--

2005--UC vs Trees---Who is the kid sitting on the bench and ranting at OUR UConn women??? He's thin, dark hair, handsome,
did hollywood send in a ringer to photo graph for these games?? Not Geno--he has this long grey beard, too dark hair that changed color during the year from light brown to light black---and he out weighs this guy by 40 pounds. Who could it be?? A picture taker could be a young Danny K---

Monikers are for lazy sportswriters with time on their hands.

There are always exceptions....lamentably, haven't seen any of his prose lately. One of the best monikers that actually did something was Phi Slamma Jamma, which apparently, if the ESPN is to be believed, caught the basketball world by storm. I just don't understand the fascination with creating them, but by all means, have fun.

Maybe. However, every now and then one of them strikes gold, The Imaculate Reception.

Exactly, it was describing an event and was so perfect, it may never be matched. I mean, attaching monikers to teams or parts of teams (Fearsome Foursome, etc) just seems a little dated, but if it folks like to do it, have at it.

The lazy sportswriter comment was just a very delayed reaction to the "Core Four" moniker that one of the local CT sportswriters tried to sell early in the season. It never caught on, thankfully, and as any Yankee fan will confirm, the only "Core Four" was Jeter, Pettitte, Posada, and Rivera. At least, ya gotta be original. Apologize to all if my crankiness offended.

Maybe true, but one of those lazy sportswriters penned the name "Ivy League" about 20 or more years before it was formally organized, and another coined the name "Phi Slama Jama", Texas' Tallest Fraternity.

Agreed, but see post above.
