Names for TX to consider?

I don't think UT requires Southern vs. Northern - I think it is more personality type and reaching out to the local community and the state's women's basketball universe. I read somewhere that GG wasn't really good at that when she arrived and it set her back.
I also think that the situation is about to change in terms of local competition - A&M is gone from the conference, and I think last year was a bit of a fluke. Baylor has one more year of BG and then inevitably will become less dominant - still very good, but there is only one BG!

I can't say that I agree that TAMU was a fluke. They were a very talented team and Blair is a tremendous coach. I watched him coach back in the days when he coached at South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas and coached the sisters of Dennis Rodman (Kim and Debra). That team could have competed with some colleges. That team also had one of the best point guards I've seen in high school, Vicki Green, whose career was virtually over when she tore an ACL, back before repair and recovery for this injury was what it is today.

Blair will continue to recruit well in Texas and will compete very well in the SEC. Of course, getting a transfer like Danielle Adams is not something that happens every day.

I really like the idea of Jen R for Texas. She has the UCONN and USA resume...a known winner much in the mold of Kim Mulkey.

Just to give you some idea of how apathetic the UT fans have become, the thread on Hornfans.com concerning GG's resignation has only had a little over 20 replies. That program has dropped so far. At this point, if you can go in and finish second in the Big 12 you will be way ahead of what they have grown accustomed to.

It's so sad, actually, that the program doesn't enjoy the support from the community it once did. Governor Ann Richards used to attend games regularly, and even growing up in Dallas I knew the names of the players and went to see some games down in Austin.

She and Pokey would be a great tandem to turn around the "image" problem that the program has developed.

Joanne Boyle. I'm not sure why Duke didn't snatch her up when Coach G left.

Duke interviewed her. It was expected to be a done deal. Her mother was still living in Raleigh.

But at the time, Joanne had a young group of kids at Cal. She felt that she could not leave them, especially since a number of them came for difficult family backgrounds and she was the only stabilizing force in their lives. Have to admire that.

Knowing that CD has already said not interested she really would be an excellent fit. She has the charm and frankness that really would play well in Texas. She has long helped the Huskies be a team of tough minded basketball players and wonderful young women. If I was TX I would through a lot of money at her and try to make her an offer she couldn't refuse.

I agree she'd be a great fit if she really wanted to be a head coach. It's now or never for her on that score; she'll be 52 this year.

CD is an interesting character, partly the yin to Geno's yang and partly the yang to his yang. She can be every bit as mean and sarcastic as Geno, and she's almost as much a perfectionist (no one can match Geno on that score). But she does it with a woman's touch. She has a grace about her that Geno never would have, and she's a lady who expects her players to become ladies as well. That would play extremely well in Texas- white, Black, urban, rural. UConn girls know how to carry themselves, how to dress, etc. Parents want that for their daughters.

And of course, she's a really good recruiter.

There were seven strokes of immense good luck that, great as Geno is, allowed Uconn to get to a national championship in 1995. Stroke #1 is Chris Dailey. Any UConn fan who doesn't thank their lucky stars for that woman is batty.

Giorgis is going nowhere IMO. I asked him point blank why he was still at Marist last year in an interview, and like Nan said, it's his home. He has history and roots in the area, and he loves his staff and the kids.

Gail didn't have a chance going in to the Texas region and recruiting alongside Blair and Mulkey. She didn't know the HS and AAU coaches, the turf in other words.

Whoever is next, has to have some "connections" to succeed IMO. But without having too much known about them either (ie Cooper-Dyke probably wouldn't fly, left a big mess at PVAMU).
