I annually try to post 1 quiz to tickle the fancy of those who enjoy them. This year, some historical titles and nick-names, and some nick-names from sports:

1 - What Arthur Wellesly was (title), after the famous battle.

2 - The Iron Chancellor

3 - Who was named "Earl of Burma" after WWII?

4 - We know "Albert Frederick Arthur George" better as ?

5 - Title given to Edward VIII upon his abdication.

6 - American President known as "Old Rough and Ready"

7 - His contemporary "Old Fuss and Feathers"

8 - Another President, Old Kinderhook?

9 - Nickname of Andrew Jackson (hint: he was "old" too)

10 - Not a President, but their contemporary - "The Great Compromiser"

11 - One of the stranger Baseball nicknames - "The Splendid Splinter"

12 - Ty Cobb's disarming nickname?

13 - He was "The Iron Horse"

14 - And - "The Big Train"

15 - Growing up as a hockey fan, my favorite goalie - "Fast Eddie"?

16 - He was "The Pocket Rocket" and a Stanley Cup Champ IIRC

17 - What they called former referee and NY Rangers announcer Bill Chadwick?

18 - To me, the most famous of Football nicknames - "The Galloping Ghost"

19 - What they called William Perry?

20 - "Prime Time" - I think he gave the nickname to himself?

Bonus - We have had one President named Stephen? And 5 named John?

Super obscure trivia bonus - There was a king of England in the 900's who is known as Ethelred the Unready. Why this nickname?

Ok, you get the prize. A big one. Yep to everything you said, including Ethelred the Unraed, as the Anglo-Saxon would have it. Ethelred itself means "noble counsel" so apparently, old-time word play.

On 3, Earl (Mountbatten) of Burma I was going for (General) Lord Louis Mountbatten. Blown up the IRA for whatever its worth.

@Bigboote - everything you said, except as @tkaes noted, The Pocket Rocket was Henri Richard. Although "The Rocket" was retired before my hockey fan period (mostly, 1970's and 1980's), brother Henri was still lacing them up.

Looking forward to your quiz when it turns up.

@Hoops66 is correct with Stephen Grover Cleveland.

The only unanswered, and probably most obscure - the Goalie nicknamed "Fast Eddie". Easy hint - I was a Ranger fan and he was one of my favorite Rangers in the day. How widespread the nickname was, I'm not sure, but I did hear it on broadcasts.

Eddie Giacomin was a pretty decent goalie as I remember...tough on the Bruins any way! The Rangers have had a good year for a change....the future?

I'll be rooting for them, but I really don't follow hockey anymore. It was replaced by women's basketball in 1994 when they went on strike. Instead of our annual pilgrimage to MSG for a Rangers game, we got seats really close to the court for a Rutgers Women's Basketball game (against their then rival in the ACC, George Washington). Sold us on the game, the next season was Vivian's arrival, and, well, goodbye hockey.

Thanks for answering; Ed4ourgirls pretty much "killed" it by getting almost everything right soon after I posted.

You did well, Walter Johnson was the Big Train, I think Dick Lane was "Night Train". The Pocket Rocket was Henri Richard, Maurice "The Rocket" Richard's younger brother. Also a Montreal Canadian and Hall of Famer.

On the presidents you want to leave out John Calvin Coolidge and Stephen Grover Cleveland. There are a few others that used middle names - for example, Wilson was actually Thomas Woodrow Wilson. I guess C. Vivian Stringer was trendier than we knew.
