MWC and Conference USA to Merge. Does that change things for Boise et al?

It means that the Big East fb schools are being outmaneuvered once again.
 
22 is huge. Granted, the BEast will probably take a few, it'll stll be larger than 16.
 
Hard to believe MWC and C-USA beat everyone else to becoming a superconference.
 
Big East football is over in 27 months or in 3 days if you believe the WVU board.

I still think the big east can cherry pick top programs from those conferences if they could show some form stability/solidarity. Short of that the big east will be a day late and dollar short yet again.

I still think the big east will end up as strictly a basketball conference when its all said and done. We will probably end up applying to the MWC/Conference USA merger. I pray im wrong.
 
They should now merge with the MAC and call themselves the USFL.

This is the bold move the Big East should have made.
 
This could have been in the works but we can thank Marinetto fir "doing expansion the right way" and calling the CUSA commissioner to tell him of the teams BE was taking. Even CUSA is walking all over him by using this info to push the merger through quickly. He should just publicize his entire strategy.
 
I said the Big East should expand and be quiet about their dealings a few days ago. No reason at all for making everything public.
 
Try to make a decent conference out of the remainders of the MAC, WAC, MWC, C-USA and SunBelt.

Temple ...... Southern Miss.....ECU.....and then what? Umess? SDSU? Hawaii?

Why not just start a FBS playoff system? Without the Big 5 involved. The have not play-in playoffs. It would outstrip the bogus AQ system. I mean, how would you like to spend the rest of your life as Illinois, or Indiana, or Purdue, in the B1g? Is that something to aspire to? Or to be NC State, Maryland, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Pitt, in the ACC? Or ISU, Kansas, Baylor, Okie State, etc., in the 12? Don't even talk about the Pac. Let's do something creative. Let's have some fun. You only live once.

I've been more consumed by the realignment stuff and our future in it, than the struggles of our team. I barely glance at the football board and spend most of my time on this board hitting refresh. :(
 
Even on the national level the realignment has overshadowed the season. That plus all the "big time" games have been blow outs.

"Banowski and Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson said Boise State, Air Force and UCF were on the conference call announcing the alliance, and that all three schools endorsed the move."

This takes the cake...we're being rejected by non-AQs who have no hope of a BCS bid until 2013-14 at the earliest.

Means nothing. No invites have been issued.
 
If I were the MWC, I would merge with the WAC before I would merge with CUSA. WAC has Salt Lake, San Jose and San Antonio, and the geographic overlap is much better. CUSA is basically worthless right now.
 
San Antonio isn't FBS level yet while San Jose is barely FBS level (and spent most of this century as one of the three or four worst FBS programs). Utah St has done some nice things recently but they are clearly viewed as a couple of steps below BYU and Utah in their own state.

This.

The only real game going on now is us waiting to see where UConn will be when the dust settles. Just complete insanity everyday with endless rumors, articles, tweets, theories, etc. bombarding the 'net. Enough to make your head explode. The games on the field almost feel like scrimmages - a nice break from the stress of realignment.

Mountain West was never an option. They would be in the WAC. Either McMurphy made a typo or has his head planted deeply in his keester.
