Is MW going to be another Tiffany Hayes? Shine against average teams and not show up in big games.I still remember Maya not getting her 3rd ring because TH was a no show in big games when she needed her the most. That being said MW has made great strides from non existent to OK to this season being.a very good player. However to be an AA she needs to be there in big games. With the great improvement she's shown this year maybe she'll take that next step her senior year when she will have some more help

I remember how frustrated I was with Hayes in the last game of Moore's career. Moore played her heart out and Hayes disappeared in that game. That was back when I could watch UConn games only when they were on network tv. I knew nothing about SNY or the Boneyard at that time.

(trying to inject some levity into the moment)

I will just add, I found Hayes frustrating to watch in general. Never in my life have I seen a player make so many off-balance and out-of-control drives that end on the floor. I remember thinking to myself, this girl must have an inner ear problem or a hidden ambition as a stuntwoman lol

Well, I think playing with pressure is a learned skill. The more pressure games you have, the more you can learn from it and how to prepare for it. Meg will have a few more of this games to shine this year and next. At least she took the shots. They weren't bad shots, they weren't off balance or out of context. Clearly there were jitters or stress that created something to be slightly off including playing at home. Maybe the road game at SC will help. I will say she kept working at getting open last night so she didn't quit. Same for Crystal Dangerfield. Aubrey and Anna got valuable minutes they can continue to learn from as well. But yes, when will one of them step and announce their authority!!!!
;)

it's always been striking how some people consistently seem to have the ability to perform to their maximum when the pressure is greatest (call it 'clutch') and others always seem to do the opposite (eh, 'choke,' to use an impolite, verboten word).

i wonder if the psychology of that has ever been studied?

of course, the former are much admired and celebrated (aaahh, taurasi, bird ...) but the latter are much more common -- and rarely even whispered of. (thankfully, some can be quickly forgiven with some reversals in future performance)

...but at least the sweat mopping boy/girl was not needed to come out and mop the sweat under that basket.

I think if you ask MW right now if she would not mind having the equivalent of TH's basketball career, she probably would sign on the dotted line without much hesitation.

I swear that said "on the Doty line". THayes and Doty have always been and always will be intertwined in my mind due to being in the same class.

Meg is due for a big time big game performance. Whether it will happen next Monday remains to be seen but I feel she is bound to have one. If not Monday then hopefully in March when it matters most.

As for Tiff, she's had a pretty decent professional career so I'm not disappointed with her materialization. But if were talking about UCONN then yes there were times she underwhelmed. My dismaying moment will always be the 2011 SF against ND. I recall mentioning in a post a couple seasons ago that I felt it was Tiffany's turn to patronage Maya since the other three starters (Faris, Dolson, Hartley) each had their saving sidekick moments in the previous three matchups with the Irish that season. End of story, a chance for a third consecutive title didnt happen.

Meg will figure it out and Geno surely agrees too.
Tiff is still making it in the pros and that's something I can be proud of.

That’s a nice reference on Hayes. That game against ND in final four where Maya almost won the game herself Tiff just needed to make a couple of shots. Anyways Meg hasn’t finished her UConn career yet so let’s see. I lm thinking Meg is a winner and hope that she will show that down the road. Right now the existing team needs her to do so much, just like crystal.

The sign of a BAD fan is their ever willingness to pin a (disappointing) loss on a player-- even if it means going back several years. How about Pheesa calling-out Samuelson? Or, Nurse and Gabby looking at Pheesa and Samuelson? Or, everybody against Chong? Wow! Look at what we could have accomplished were it not for those spoilers! Win win win ... for ever and ever. Someone asked if there is a psych (already a cottage industry) of (high)performance; it might be better to query about fans performance. So many of us are willing, if even reluctantly, to throw our team under the bus. But haven't we been doing so since the Stewie years? Just musing. Next year, we are going to win win win- until we are out of our mind. We are going to become insane from all the winning. Am I alone in this winning fest.

What happened to this message board? I used to enjoy reading post and discussing the game. Now it is a bunch of ignorant people making ignorant statements attacking current and past players. Tiffany Hayes has had a pretty good career in the WNBA... she did well at UCONN. Now you guys want to attack her and say that she is the reason Moore did not get a 3rd ring. Notice how there was no mention of how good that Notre Dame team was. Or the lack of contributions from others. No... some of you want to attack our players... Hayes and Walker in this case. How sad.

You're right. We should be looking at ourselves. Did we do all we could to create the right mojo for the game? Did we wear the right shirt? Did we eat the right meal? Did we sit in the right seat? Did we wear our lucky socks? We can be just as culpable as the players, probably more so. Let's stop berating the players and coaches and start berating each other.

Did we not properly give the wrong directions to the OR bus? ;)

MW has really shined through most games this year. She has grown tremendously from her freshman/sophomore years. She does seem to struggle in the big games which is maybe her trying to take over the games.
However, I respectfully disagree with DefenseBB about when will one of them step up and show authority? Anna is showing signs of authority on her defense, rebounds, assists, altering shots and shooting. If only now MW and all would simply pass to her when she’s open. This would especially make a difference in the big games but obviously in all games. Love all of the UCONN gals and can’t wait until Friday’s game!

I could do that:p

I don't know if you are alone, but "next year" sounds a lot like them orange fans the last few years.

You and all of the ones who choose to demean an ex Huskies and then compare a current to her. You and your negative Neds or Nellies are just front runners Do not call yourselves fans. It is also the coaches fault right, remember Diana in her first
year ( choking, huh) or was it just a bad night ? Disgustingbehavior

You should probably stop reading the comments on this board. You know they will not all be positive. Even Geno makes negative comments about his players. All the negative ones are not incorrect. What is the board for if not for opinions, even those with which you don't agree.

You are correct sir that is exactly what I did, express my opinion.
