I was reading an article that ESPN did shortly after Jewell announced for the draft and I didn’t realize that Skyler and Kayla seemed to support Muffet’s opinion that Jewell leaving early was a bad decision. The article also pointed out that there was little else she could accomplish while at Notre Dame seeing as how Stewart and Co. were returning and would have been favorites to win the title with Stewart the favorite to win NPOY. I wonder why she doesn’t feel the same way about Jackie Young. I mean Young seemed to leave ND in a bigger lurch than Loyd did.

And maybe that's largely because the "ND family" essentially cyber-bullied her after she elected to go pro.

If you say so. I don't remember anyone other than Muffet (who certainly was harsh towards her) having much of anything to say.

Skylar et al. had plenty to say with their twitchy twitter fingers. It's safe to say they didn't reach out to Jewell to express their solidarity and family values before doing so.

Former Notre Dame star Skylar Diggins, who played with Loyd for one season, tweeted on the day Loyd declared for the draft: "The four years I spent as a student-athlete at Notre Dame were the best years of my life."

That's all I could find that Skylar said. Definitely a sub-tweet but not exactly cyber-bullying.

I wonder why she doesn’t feel the same way about Jackie Young. I mean Young seemed to leave ND in a bigger lurch than Loyd did.

Young had already won a national championship. Loyd left without a national championship and her departure pretty much extinguished whatever minuscule chance ND had of one the following year. ND had no chance of accomplishing anything last year even if Young had played. I think that played a part in Muffet's reaction because she had been so close from 2011-2015 and wanted to win another NC really badly.

Also, Loyd gave every outward impression that she was staying and then reportedly told Muffet she was leaving just hours after ND lost in the national championship game.

My favorite was this tweet to Amanda Zahui B when the media was speculating whether either or both would turn pro.

Haha we're just kids of course we're not going pro! (Narrator: they went pro).

Jackie was clear all along that she was undecided.

And why would she feel the need to tweet such a thing, two years after she'd played her last college game? Clearly it's just to ostracize and shame Jewell for her choice. Just because it's more subtle doesn't mean it's not a "mean girl" tactic.

I already said it was a sub-tweet...

But saying that she had a good experience at ND after Jewell choose to leave early is not "cyber-bullying". That is a laughable reach.

Amazing that the reflex among some is to shift blame onto Jewell for the petty swipe and disrespect planned and executed by Muffet. And then attempt to lecture those who refuse to kowtow to the victim-blaming.

That narrative is probably faring well on the ND board.

I don't see it as laughable or as a reach.

Subtweeting and Vaguebooking Are Dangerous forms of Cyberbullying

"When a person subtweets, they are essentially bullying the person being talked about."

100% don't agree but I do respect that you went to the trouble of finding a parenting blog that backs you up.

I guess I just don't see why Jewell and her people should care if Muffet tags her in a tweet when she wants nothing to do with ND anyway.

Oh and am sure you'll agree that all of the subtweets about this situation from Loyd's agent or Bird or Rapinoe or whoever constitute cyber-bullying towards Muffet, right?

Like I said, if only we had basketball so we could debate x's and o's instead of subtweets and hashtags.

Believe it not, thanks for posting this and I completely agree with your post: this could be inadvertent (in part because MM did mention the 9, so she had Jewell in mind), but fix it.

(BTW, she also mentioned Jess Shepard but neglected to add her twitter handle, but the key omission -- given the history -- is Jewell's.)

Have to say, really disappointed that you referred to the “Boneyard haters” concerning this topic on McGraw’s Bench. You have always been welcome on the Boneyard, and while there have been the inevitable disagreements, I don’t recall anything personal or what could accurately be described as “hater” conduct. Also, the occasional discordant or inappropriate note is generally called out by the moderators or other posters.

Not a big deal, but it really surprised me coming from you. I thought your relationship with this forum was better than that.

As another third party fan around here, I have to say, the love not lost between Boneyarders and MM is extreme, to the point I almost feel tempted to defend her, and I really can't stand her as a coach. I don't think hater is that far off the mark, and I say that as someone who locks arms with a lot of Geno haters on my Stanford board (I can't count the number of references to "the evil empire"). I don't really fight with them about that because fans gonna fan, and sometimes that includes guzzling the haterade for your sworn enemy's coach and players. I just keep quiet and rooting for the Huskies whenever they play anyone other than the Card. :)

And again, she probably wants nothing to do with ND -- and indeed, has likely arrived at a place of no longer caring -- precisely because of how poorly Muffet and Skylar have treated her.

Huge difference between being called out for a overtly disrespectful misstatement and being gratuitously belittled by a third party for a draft entry decision. That, and the fact that Muffet is not a 21-year-old, at least not chronologically. Pretty laughable that you'd attempt to equate the two.

Not my point. If you don't want anything to do with them, why should you care if they want nothing to do with you? Muffet's count was correct - there are 9 active ND players in the W, including Jewell. So this is literally about Muffet putting her username in the tweet.

Why would she want to be tagged by someone she doesn't like?

Pretty laughable that you'd attempt to equate the two.

That part was overtly sarcastic and then I finished with a Broad City gif. I thought I made it pretty apparent that it was a joke.
