Mt. Rushmore and Beyond

Taursi, Taursi Taursi. Does that bother you so much that you have to curse?
It was the persistence and numerous repetition that triggered me.
I wasn't thinking of "dammit" as really cursing, but I guess technically it is. Is "gosh darn it" cursing? Anyway I meant no offense by it.

LOL!!! What Diana did with the supporting cast she had in 2003 and 2004 is more than any other player in UConn history did. The closest is probably Maya because there were only a couple players on her teams better than what Taurasi had - Tina Charles and Tiff Hayes. Stewart won 4 titles, but there are probably a dozen players across those 4 years that were better than anyone but Diana on the 2003 and 2004 teams.
"What Diana did with supporting cast in 2003, 2004 is more than anyone in Uconn History"

Agreed. I was also there at the same time/years she was there. I will note that the level of competition during those years wasn't even close to todays game..

There was Tennessee and Uconn....Maybe one other half way decent team....

Today there are probably 8-12 legitimate contenders every year. The games/players have evolved.

But what Diana did with that team is amazing. It was basically a team of role players..

Those teams played the game the way it was meant to be played. They are the poster child for the saying; “The whole is better than the sum of it’s parts!” Dee was the masterful orchestrator who knew what strings to pull and when to pull them.

If you’re going to raise the “level of competition” argument, then we really should throw out the whole Mt Rushmore analogy. After all, when Washington took office there were only 13 states (16 when he left). Jefferson wasn’t much better, becoming president when there were 16 states and leaving with 17.

Lincoln started with 34 and left prematurely with 36, although for much of his presidency, 11 of those states were in rebellion. That must mean that Teddy Roosevelt was the best president on Mt Rushmore since he was president when there were 45 states, leaving with 46.

Teddy Roosevelt probably was the "best president" out of the four on MT. Rushmore...

But, if Washington is there because he was the first then Lobo has to be on Uconns Mt Rushmore. Whether we have 4 players or 10 players on this hypothetical Mt Rushmore of Uconn...Lobo started everything. She put us on the map. In fact Lobo and Rizzotti were the two players that made me a fan.

And I still remember how it happened. My mother was the one who always watched women's basketball. Me and my father were really into the men's Big East and we kinda laughed at her for watching the women play . (I was a kid)

Anyway, It was the Uconn/Tennessee game (regular season game) that got me into it. I just happened to sit down with my mom that day and we both watched the game. I was hooked. And it was because of Lobo/Rizzotti.

Kerry Bascom put UConn on the map that led to getting Lobo

Washington is not there solely because he was first! He was one of our greatest presidents.

That is what we have all been told since kindergarten. That is what the history books tell us. How can anyone argue with the history books.

I am sure he was one of our greatest president's but I don't have any firsthand knowledge since I wasn't living at the time.

Right, and yet you quite confidently said Teddy was probably the best.
Was that firsthand knowledge? I suppose all our opinions about the past are based on books.
Being “first” doesn’t have anything to do with how great a player you were. Lobo, of course, was a great player. Just not, imo, a top five player. As for your question about the history books, I don’t have the answer to that one.
I suppose you have to try to be objective on what the sources were in any specific book and go from there?

"Lobo was a great player just not top 5"

I am sure George Washington was a great President too, but maybe or maybe not top five either. Whether he was top 5 or not is very subjective.

However, Old George probably deserves to be on MT. Rushmore because he was literally the "founder of our country"....

As for Lobo, I didn't say she was "top 5", but I do believe she put Uconn on the map more than anyone else. Sure there were good players before her (before my time, so I didn't see them)...

However, it was Lobo that propelled us into a National Power House. (She might be the Babe Ruth of Uconn basketball)

Without Lobo we were NOT winning our first National title. Sure we had Jen, Sales and Waters but it was Lobo who put us over the top...

So she deserves to be on the Top 10 "MT. Rushmore" by default.

That is how I see it.
