The top 25 college hoops teams of all time

No. 17 - UConn (1998-1999)
UConn finally gets its first national title and would go on to win four over the next 15 years. This was a stout roster featuring Rip Hamilton, Jake Voskuhl, Khalid El-Amin and Ricky Moore, who defeated top-ranked Duke in one of the better championship games you'll see. The Huskies faced nine ranked opponents during the regular season, going 34-2 overall.

Thought 04 was a better team myself and higher up the board around 10 or so.

I think you have to 2011 some love. They beat ranked teams and went on a incredible run beginning in the Big East tournament. Other teams may have had a more daunting roster but no one beats that 2011 team. They were the personification of mojo/destiny.

They got incredibly hot but remember the team was 9-9 in conference and basically had to play everyday at the big east tournament

The problem with ‘04 was their inconsistency earlier in the season. For ‘99, you’re looking at a team that lost only one game (by a single possession) with its full lineup intact.
I agree, but I love that team. I believe that was our most dominant and most complete team ever. People probably look and see the 6 losses and hold that against the 2004 team. Two of those losses (Georgia Tech, Syracuse) were essentially without Okafor because of his back, and Charlie was not eligible yet for the Georgia Tech game either. When that team was at full strength and motivated, they were not going to lose to anybody, anywhere.

I assume this is not going by top talent teams of all time. The '99 team was the best from beginning until the end without stumbling and took down the heavy favorite Duke, and along the way dismantled a pretty good St Johns team for the Big East championship. No problem with them representing the best UConn team of all time.

True and it is best teams not best tournament teams or champions. Still, they never lost a game when there was a trophy on the line.

In a dream world I would love to see a final four between Uconns four championship teams: 99, 04, 11 and 14. (How many programs can say that by the way?) Any one wanna sim that final four?

And if '11 played '14, Bazz, Giffey, and Olander would have to split themselves !

Ohhhh, 2011 Bazz guarding 2014 Bazz would be an awesome match up.

The bandit would give himself a reach around?
Pretty sure they changed the on-ball defending foul rules sometime in between to make that patented Freshman Bazz reach around pick pocket very hard to do without fouling.

With that being said, 2004 should be on here.

Not to mention the path 2004 team had wasn’t that daunting. Outside of Duke the other 5 victories in that tournament were against less than impressive teams.

I have the 99' team beating the 14' team convincingly, and the 04' team over the 11' team in a good competitive game. Then I'll say with both rosters at full strength the 04' team squeezes by the 99' team by a few points, with us all being in basketball utopia for a couple hours.

I have no issue with the 99 team being the highest rated “team” from UCONN. The 04 team had more talented, but at time we’re disconnected.

If you were to look up the defintion of “team” in a dictionary, 1999 UCONN Huskies would be there.

I believe 99 would expose the weaknesses of 04. However, if 04 played to their potential (Oaklahoma, G-Tech, Duke) 99 might fall short

I still think 99 team beats 04 in a very close game. I think moore would have shut down Gordon which would have really disrupted that team. I don't think anderson/d brown could have shut down rip. Okafor would have been the wild card. Don't know if 99 team could afford to double him like they did Elton.

I mean, that Duke team had more threats off the double team, so not sure why '04 UConn would be better suited to cope with it. Emeka averaged only 1 asst per game. Duke was just blindsided by it and our execution was perfect.

The question is could Calhoun adjust to Calhoun's tactical genius? I guess if anyone could, it'd be him.
