In the American news, while Gabby was FOW, Moriah was named to the weekly honor roll. That's not what stood out to me...

In her last 6 games she's averaging 78% from beyond the arc - 14-18. While it's impossible for those numbers to continue forever, it's pushed her 3 point shooting average for the season up to 50%.

And she's only tied for 1st place - with Kia Stokes no less ;)

Side note - Nurse is at 45.8% and KML at 48.9%. Stewie is at 37%, Saniya at 33% and Morgan at 20%.

Still, when you listen to Geno talk about Moriah, and see what she's accomplishing on the court, it's clear that whatever was going on early in the season has completely disappeared. Per Geno and Moriah (more from Mo), she was over-thinking a bit and not just "playing".

YTD 15 games in she's averaging 12.3 PPG, 5.0 APG, and 2.1 RPG. She also has 39 steals (2.6 per game) and shoots FT's at a respectable 75%.

Her assist/TO ratio is really good too - 75 assists to 29 turnovers - 2.586 - and all this is accomplished in under 28 minutes per game. As a whole, for the players who play the PG, UCONN is at 2.3 as both Saniya and Kia have solid numbers there too.

Last year she was one of 5 finalists as a sophomore for the Nancy Lieberman award - for the top PG in the nation. If there's a better PG out there right now, I don't know who that is... And she's only a junior. When all is said and done, I believe she will be remembered as one of the all time best - and possibly the best - PG's UCONN has ever had...

And what is sadly ironic is that she may never be first team AA because of her incredibly talented teammates.

We are spoiled basketball fans ... every year it seems ... but things have really come up aces for us recently haven't they. And, the most important Ace we have drawn is MoJeff having found her rhythm. Her torrid hot streak may cool, but that is what makes them streaks. If it does, as it must, no handwringing please. It shall return ... just like McArthur in the Phillipines ( without his retakes...history buff inside joke).

On the 'can she keep the shooting % up' ...
Last year from Jan 1 through the end of Feb her shooting percentages were incredible - She came into January at about .350/.300 and exited Feb at about .575/.450. For those two months she was shooting something like .600/.650. So ... yes she can. Will she is a whole different question, but she is definitely capable of doing so.

I maintained a thread on her last year as she chased 400 pts, 200 assets, 100 rebounds, and 100 steals - she fell short of the 200 assist mark by 5. She would have been the second player in uconn history to hit those marks for a season - Jen R. being the first. I blame the rest of the team for going cold in the NCAA regionals and final for her not getting the extra 5 assists!!

Even if she doesn't make AA, I think that Moriah is already at Renee's level and can equal Jen and Sue in time. Can she win 2 Liebermans? How about 4 NCAA rings?

nice to see the interview with her dad yesterday...... she seems to have a good family unit intact...... good role models to follow..... his thinking is very clear..... and advice for his daughter good.

During the interview with her dad, Moriah was taken out of the game. As she was walking off the court, she glanced up in the stands and a sly, yet loving. smile came over her face. My wife and I were thinking she saw her father being interviewed. It was sweet.

I once slipped in early pre-game, got pretty close before the guards saw me, actually didn't know I was doing anything wrong. She gave me the sweetest smile, sweet kid!

I snagged Mo and Stewie, their Sr yr of HS at the XL Center for a big game, after they committed. waited for them to head to the mezzanine.
Chatted with both of them, and took a great picture with me centered between both of them. Last year, I was able to bring the photo and see them after First Night ended. When I grabbed and asked them to sign the photo--- and I asked if they remembered the picture---they both said, " are you kidding, you are the first picture we ever took with a wack job UConn Fan!" After the Championship Game in Tenn, while Stewie was waiting to be interviewed in the ESPN booth before or after Geno, as I was sitting right near there, she saw me and gave me a warm smile and hey how you doing and wave, acknowledging that hey, I know you! They are all really special, grounded and just great young women.

The only real disappointments this year about MoJeff's performance is the blocks. Last year she had some monsters on the way to 9, and I had hoped she would go double digits this year. She's on a pace for 8 so far, but she's already outdistanced Jen, who had 9 total for her UConn career. MoJeff has also scored more TDs on her drives to the basket than any UConn running back managed this year.

In Jen's defense it is very hard to block shots when diving prone to the floor.
