WOW!! This girl is quick. She has a great handle and I love her ability to penetrate, stop and pop! Her leaping ability for her height is amazing.
Some of the current UCONN players could learn from MJ's inclination to pull up and drain the mid-range jumper versus drive all the way to the hoop or pop a 3ptr. Love this kid's smarts to stop and pop.

If UConn dosnt lose the rest of this season and I say that because of all the up they have with underclassman I ve got to wonder when they will lose. Breanna Morgan Moriah. then it lools like Diamond then Sierra and who ever else......... There isnt a team in America that can beat UConn. Next season Im waiting for Breanna to block Griners shot and dunk on Baylor?? only because Tenn is afraid to play us.

+1

Ive watched a LOT of girls HS basketball and I must say... Im impressed. The confidence is oozing, she has a lot of tools and add top-flight players she'll be playing with at UConn she will be fine.

only problem I may be is decision making... when in HS you dont have to make many because you're normally "da man" but she'll be surrounded be AA's so she's gonna need to know when to shoot and when to pass.

If she's a quick learner & a good listener she'll be fine.

They can learn that in person from Hartley.

not to rain on the parade, but in watching most of the video i never saw her show any inclination to pass the ball to someone. she doesn't seem to be looking for anyone else open at any time. she averages under 4 assists, which seems a bit of a low number. seems like the other top recruits' videos over the years showed them doing making good passes at times. she looks a bit like simmons to me. hope not.

That is more likely a function of the editing of a dedicated highlight video than representative of her game.

I just watched this again. She is poetry in motion...... I still can't believe how polished she appears.

Considering it's a highlight video, the emphasis is going to be on the plays that she made to get to the hoop and score to help her team. Oftentimes when the PG is the star of the high school team, there's going to be more of an emphasis on scoring because that's what the team needs her to do. The behind the back pass on the fast break when she could have gone for the score herself was a good example of her ability to pass the ball, as was the bounce pass through the lane to her teammate under the basket.

I don't think she will have an issue adjusting to dishing the ball to others in Storrs, imho. However, if she does, I'm sure Geno will teach her the "reigns" of what he expects from a UConn PG.

She's one of the most elite high school players in the country playing alongside a team of other home-schooled kids. Passing the ball is not the priority in that offense. In UConn's, it will be. I do think it will take her a bit longer than Breanna and Morgan for her to get adjusted simply by virtue of the experience difference, but she has a skill set that's rare and unteachable. And we've got enough other guards that she can integrated with less urgency than the incoming frontcourt players.

i don't mind that passing may not be a priority, but it doesn't even appear to be an option. her eyes are down, not looking around. when you've got that kind of talent , and playing with less able teammates, it's easy to develop habits that don't mesh easily with a team game. there will probably be lots of screaming in the huddles for a couple of years.

I think the following quote & corresponding article give good insight into Moriah's capabilities in terms of involving her teammates:

Moriah Jefferson Article

“I just love her unselfishness,” THESA Riders coach Alan Burt said. “I said this to a lot of people that she is a better person than she is a basketball player. She is such a super young lady.

“By going up to UConn, she is going to have a lot of other pieces there. Here, we ask her to do an awful lot. There she is going to be able to come in and pass the ball to a legitimate post which we don’t have. Her personality, her values, her morals, her ethics I think she is going to make a great adjustment.”

thanks for the quote... it says a lot

I saw a couple of passes that were spectacular. The one bounce pass that she made on the break to a streaking player was pretty impressive. The skip pass that she made to the player in the corner was also a bullet. She may not currently pass a lot, but it sure looks like she has the skill.

I'm not sure what her assist average is but I have a feeling that she is going to have high numbers unless she gets on the court an pulls a Simmons, at which point Geno will promptly put her on the bench to think about her decision making.

If she pulls that with Geno she'll be riding the pine. End of story.

Yeah, and the fact that you don't see more passes (effective if not so spectacular) has a couple of explanations.

One, as mentioned by others, is her role as primary point producer versus the roles of the supporting cast.

Another is that it's a highlight film. The people putting it together are not gonna focus on passes but on the most jaw-dropping MoJeff scoring moves they can find.

Her coach obviously has a lot of faith and respect for her. Geno obviously has faith in her or he wouldn't have recruited her and offered her a scholarship. And even if things were to get a little out of control, Geno and the other coaches would without a doubt reign her in. I'm not worried.

Triple Wow...that's just crazy, freakish, Derrick Rose-like athleticism! Moriah, Breanna and Morgan added to our current incredible crew sans only Tiff...there must be laws against having that much firepower!

That is what I saw...I have no idea how a poster arrived at "Simmons" and, indeed, other vapid comments on assists...it’s a highlights clip BoneHeads!!!

If anyone can find a more spectacular video of a HS point guard in the making, let’s see it . Pony up
