Moriah . . . in the zone!

"You know what, she hasn't had that feeling [of being in a bubble] yet at UConn," Robin Jefferson said. "But then one day [in October] I talked to her after practice and said, 'Honey, do you remember that zone you used to describe to me? You haven't been in that yet, have you?' And she said, 'Mom, I'm in it.'"

Just an outstanding article from John A in the Courant on Moriah. Great stuff. (Story link below from Nan's daily batch of news. Thanks, Nan!)

LINK

Trying not to be whiny about the difficulty of getting acccess to new articles, but Nan's links to news listed eight (8) from the Hartford Courant today. Now, up here in Maine I don't figure I want a subscription to the Hartford paper, but I can't see how to read any of those eight articles. Any suggestions, or do I need to pay every day I want to read a posting in the Courant?

One of the great things about Moriah is that she very rarely misses layups, despite fairly high degree of difficulty.

A prescription for success the past 8 years: Find #23 spotting up in transition. For the next 4 years, it will be #33.

type the title of the article into google and hopefully you can then click on that link to read without it asking for a subscription

Even in high school, a very young Moriah was absolutely breathtaking! (Crystal's going to have some awfully big shoes to try to fill). There will never be another Moriah Jefferson. Never. I feel privileged to have watched her play. THANK YOU, MORIAH.

Don't know about you, Papa, but all I had to do was to establish a no-charge account with my e-mail and a password. Since that time, I've been able to access anything at the HC. Hope it works for you. Good luck.

I tried that and then tried to log in 5 times! Can't get to the articles. Very frustrating. Any suggestions?

Thanks Huskies, but it still brings up the login page that just doesn't work. Maybe it a Courant problem.

Probably won't help, but try another browser or a few. Also, you might be able to get in through the backdoor using Google. If it's any comfort, the Courant isn't the bastion of high journalism nor the place with all that much inside knowledge. I think if you follow the posters at the BY you'll learn a tremendous amount about the team. You can't get this much good stuff anywhere else (in my experience).

Thank you, Uc! I saw some more follow-up suggestions (thanks, folks), but Uc's strategy worked fine. I know that I can get untold numbers of insights just here on the board, but occasionally one of the hoard has something to say worth reading

In the first video, at 2:14, she is doing her Diana over-the-corner-of-the-backboard shot, except with her right hand.

Thanks so much for cutting and pasting. Great article! Love me some Huskies BB.

Moriah makes others look silly, whether she's on offense or defense. When she is defending, she repeatedly commits petit larceny. :)

If that had been an outstanding plays compilation from an entire season it would have been spectacular. To have done all of that in one game...the mind boggles! And then boggles again!!!

Typing the title of the article (or reasonable facsimile) always works for me. I always start the google search with "Courant....." If the name of the article isn't in the link or thread title or whatever, hit the OP's link and look at the title real quickly before the Courant ad covers it up. You might have to do this 2-3 times to get enough of the title to work, but usually a couple key words does it - Google is wicked smart.

kind of disagree with you... did you read the Brimah story (player on the mens team), simply amazing!

Moriah showed flashes of her talent as a freshman, but her shooting was mediocre. Her second year, she started slowly, especially shooting the ball, but skyrocketed in January and was great the rest of the year. Last season, she again started slowly, but turned it on in December. Based on the pre-season games, she looks to be in mid-season form.

Mo takes over games like players her size rarely do. She reminds me a bit of Ivory Latta on her best days. Teams don't bother pressing us when Moriah is in the game. Her speed and moves put the other team's defenders in vulnerable positions. On defense, she steals the ball, harasses the other players into bad decisions, and even blocks shots. Two years ago, I wrote that she would be the most fun to watch player in the country. I stand by that statement. She is a treasure. Let's enjoy her 4th season with us.

Moriah Jefferson--AS A FRESHMAN was terrific, just not fully trusted (Geno rarely trusts Frosh). Ivory Latta was fantastic, no doubt. But REALLY Moriah head to head in College Jefferson would eat her lunch.
Moriah has two speeds--full out --and faster.

I don't pay the Courant--I just register (a hundred times a month) and read everything--unless they get a bug up their presses and lock me out for a few days--then again my email and pass word and zip code works for registration.

I think a good nickname for her would be "The Roadrunner." Her current "do" works with it.

Neep, Neep!
