FI hope she stays, but am happy with whatever choice she makes. I just don't see the downside of a delayed pro career for someone who most likely cannot physically play both WNBA and overseas - the money just isn't good enough. If she disliked college then go pro, but reports are she loves the Uconn environment from team to academics.
I have no information on Morgan's relative academic prowess, but she impresses me as being extremely bright. If she came to me for advice (no one ever comes to me for advice) I'd counsel her to return for a fifth season, enter graduate school, and set a course on a profession in which she can look forward eventually to making some REAL money (as opposed to WNBA money)... and enjoy a lifetime of satisfaction! But that's just me.
Here's my plan for Morgan:She elects to go pro and gets picked by the CT Sun. After the season is over she declines to play abroad because she'd be crazy to play year round on a knee that probably will forever be uncertain. So she stays around, enrolls in an MBA or some other graduate program at UConn, helps out with team practices, and thereby kills two birds with one stone.
She has to go. Go out with the teammates that she came in with. Nothing's going to be better than this. Even if she came back next year it would not be the same.
Oh I think we're all expecting that. Even Geno in his press conference just said that those coming back next year are in for a rude awakening, and that this will be the biggest transition between classes perhaps in his career. The fact that Tuck can't say what she's going to do makes me think she's leaving. If she were coming back it would be a pretty simple response since she has the year of eligibility - that's no secret - whether she uses it or not is the question to which we'll have an answer later today.HF: understand your stance, of course. But gotta point out that next year also will not " be the same" by a long shot if she goes.
How cool would it be if she said she is coming back to lead the drive for 5!!
I haven't read anywhere (maybe I missed it) that she could take her remaining year of eligibility and parlay it into admission to a prestige graduate program in her field. (Stanford, The Ivies) Why not?I actually was genuinely intrigued by the thought of her sorta being in the same position as Diana Taurasi (after '02 when Bird, Cash, Jones, Williams graduated) and seeing if she could...well, pull of that whole 'Diana Taurasi' thing! haha!
After watching the game and celebration...the aforementioned idea just sounds....silly! Tonight was just magical! and for all we know, Ms. Taurasi herself mighta been watching and kinda wishin' she coulda played the 'Morgan Tuck' role in what was, without a doubt, a sports fairytale.
It definitely just *feels* like the right time to go. she has nothing to more to prove as a collegiate athlete! no *unfinished business.* She can set and accomplish new goals in terms of furthering her education at any age! Anyway, "reading" her smile (which implied total satisfaction), I expect that this is indeed the direction she will take.
HOWEVER: When asked about the record of 4 straight....she definitely said something like "a record that nobody will break....or, at least I hope not!" And I was kinda like, "....Nevermind then, girl! if you really wanna make sure that record sticks, you better come back and make it a 5-peat!" lolol.... ;-P
Because she's one of the best basketball players in the world and her fame is probably worth more than any additional education anyway.I haven't read anywhere (maybe I missed it) that she could take her remaining year of eligibility and parlay it into admission to a prestige graduate program in her field. (Stanford, The Ivies) Why not?
