Morgan Tuck in 3 point contest?

Remember that last Geno quipped that KML made so many shots in practice it was a problem because everyone just assumed they were all going in.
I think it was Kiah who said that was Kaleena's job. KML does it very well, but her teammates still need to (1) offensive rebound when she does miss and (2) not rely on her too much. The offense runs best on all cylinders and even Kaleena has slumps.

Also, I plead guilty. When Kaleena is squared up and shooting with rhythm, I too expect almost every one to go in.

Once again I was not around last year to evaluate KML so mainly I'm going by this video only. Her release is as quick as Taurasi's and Moore's, which is good news. However, her release point is not as high so I would not expect her to be quite their equal at 3-point shooting in a game because more of her shots potentially can be bothered, but perhaps I'll be proven wrong.

That's actually a great point. She will probably never be in the WNBA or play hoops after she graduates (professionally), but I'm so hoping she has a great senior season - personally, and team-wise. She's been thru a ton and deserves it!
I am hoping she has a good year and expect it. Last year she was still having set-back during the summer/fall so she didn't have a normal 'work on you game' off season. This year it has all been good as far as we know and I expect her confidence to make a rebound.
And if she has a good year I could see her getting drafted and making a team, and certainly if she wants to, finding an overseas team. If she is healthy I don't see her as a worse player than Ketia for example who has 5 years of WNBA experience.

.-.
Dont think I'll ever understand the hand-wringing over HS ranks.

In any event, HS rankings become irrelevant after the first game.
I must have missed it. Where was the hand wringing? I know Milford quite well and I've never seen him "wring his hands".

Who cares? I'm just glad that Breanna didn't hurt herself!
I agree with the part about glad she didn't injure herself, but seriously? Enter the dunk contest, and don't make a single one? I'm sure the players and Geno won't let her live it down, and I bet she was plenty embarrassed. It's kinda like going on the Letterman show with a dog that is supposed to do stupid pet tricks, and instead it just sits there on the stage. Not what anyone wanted to see happen for sure.

Maybe someone told SNY she wouldn't be making any of her dunks.

Maybe I should wash my hands of this whole matter. :)

As someone who has spent a career as an economic statistician, I appreciate accuracy, but also know that number have limitations. Morgan's performance over 4 years, including post surgery, suggests that she is one if the top few performers in her class. If people have expectations of a #15 player, they will be stunned at how well she performs. I don't obsess over small differences, but Morgan's no. 15 HG ranking has no credibility.

BG from Baylor Moonlight Madness. She also participated in the tandem 3-point contest.

Player HS rankings (class of2012) are meaningless once the season begins. So why bother?

Eric knows the rankings cold, but I think most rankings had her between 4/5 and 8. I think HG had her at 15 or so.

I do believe that HG moved her up to #6. Think the final rankings were 1) Stewart 2) Jefferson 3) Alexis Jones 4) Lloyd ... cant remember who #5 was... and 6) Tuck.

I'm excited about seeing the three freshmen in action. I hope I can find some of the early games online.

Morgan ended up #9 per Blue Star, 6 per HG (she was 15 for a long while), 4 per ASGR and 4 per Peach State before they merged with HG... To answer Kib's question, rankings are generally meaningless all of the time. I doubt very much that Geno and co. recruit players based on their HG or ASGR or BS rankings. However, it's a way for fans to quantify how good the kids they are getting are supposed to be, and to quantify how good the classes are that each program is getting.

Of course the rankings are often wrong. Sometimes really really wrong. Faris ended up ranked 34 by HG at the end of her senior year of HS. Angel wasn't even in the top 75 when she started college.

Even at 15 you should be pretty confident that you are getting an outstanding player. Number 15 is nothing to sneeze at.

The HS rankings evolve. A player can improve considerably over a one year span. Maybe before her senior year she was number 15 but she possibly improved over that one year period to where here ranking had to be adjusted. Her USA experience certainly helped her develop her game.

On rankings for HS a lot of it depends on exposure as well. Most ranking services only deal with players they actually see in action (tape or live) so if a HS player is not playing for a team in either HS or AAU that consistently travels to the big tournaments they may get worse rankings simply because no one see them. Chong is a clear example of that issue and other great college players have also been largerly unknown through HS.

Another factor may be that Tuck committed early. The services are primarily used by recruiters and once a player commits and is no longer "on the board" the services concentrate on the uncommitted.

Good point.

15th is good, but at the top end, there is often a big difference in just a few places. Maya was rated 1 and Angie Bjorklund was 2. Despite what UT fans said, there was a huge talent gap there. Griner may have been the only player to get a 99 score, which separated her from Kelsey Bone et al. At 15, a player should be a contributor and a nice part of the team, but not a dominant player or an All-American at the college level.

The rankings can be wrong! One service that had a beat on Kelly was ASGR #7! I admit I love Kelly. What she brings to any team is so many intagibles in addition to skills that too often get lost in pts per game! I am one who believes Kelly has a playing career post college:) Also was a McD AA

As for Morgan,I have posted my belief along with professionals who believe she is really still under the radar as to how good this kid really is! IMHO.she is going to be an AA before her college career ends! She will also be a top 5 pick for the WNBA! Angel is a perfect pick for rankings!

When you look at what we have added to surround her Bree,MO,Morgan she is going to have more open looks, The dedication she has to improving and adding to her game, the gorgeous form and quick release expect an even more deadly higher% 3 pters!

At point HG had Rachel Hollivay ranked #3 in the class, that might have been before she got in a car accident that messed up her vision in one eye that she hasn't been able to see out of until very recently. So she should be back at 100%. :D

At First Night, what I particularly noticed about Morgan Tuck was her solid build. When she sets a pick, a lot of defenders are going to careen. Or to paraphrase Joe Torre, when she grabs a rebound, it will stay rebounded. The Asjha Jones comparison is not implausible.

I was also surprised at her accuracy on 3-balls in the competition, and at the fact that she would even be considered for that contest.

She will be a solid "4", perhaps the one on the team most naturally suited to that position.

This consideration shouldn't surprise anyone Morgan won the three point contest at one of the high school All Star games last spring.

Well, he does, actually. But only if there are no paper towels available.

...and after trying to use the power hand dryer in the men's room. Then he just wipes them on his pants.
