Reason I haven't thought deion is impossible because some people do buy into his ridiculousness. I don't think others can repeat what he does but some people do buy in

Me too. Mora is the right guy for UConn. Sure Sanders would bring in money and eyeballs and is showing he can coach, but I think Mora just is able to build the program back. Plus I feel like CT would rag on Sanders like they did Calhoun
 
I do not hate Prime, and respect his HOF career and knowledge of the game.
But it is clear that Prime is firstly and secondly about Prime and his chosen kids. That just isn't my identity as a fan.
Jim Mora is about the Falcons/Seahawks/UCLA/UConn, when he's been at the wheel of each.
I want to know my coach is all in on me.

Primes interviews still ooze of narcissism - "don't hate me, let's focus on the kids" - dude you're constantly drawing attention to yourself and basking in the glory of your greatness. It's cheesy, even if you win games.

Call me crazy, and it is probably crazy, but I'd STILL rather have JM and a 7-5 record in no-mans land, over a 10-2 season and feeling unsure if my coach is already planning his next move before the end of his 2nd season.

I think i feel this because wherever we end up, it feels like it's ours - Prime's success feels like it's his, not colorado's.

So glad Mora is our HC. Cannot judge Sanders at CO until some more time passes, particularly in a profession that often shows little loyalty to HCs.

When I think about a former NFL player/ celeb coach for UConn I ponder who would be a good fit. Definitely not the west coast vibe of someone like Sanders. Maybe a Gronkowski? Or to pull from further back in time John Riggins.

Deion Sanders is doing really well thus far at Colorado. Congrats to him. I think he will continue to succeed in today's climate because he relates better to kids nowadays than most coaches because he has always lived in "NIL reality" where his personality as a player and beyond was about his brand. I have no clue how into the X's and O's he gets, so perhaps with coordinators coming and going you see different results, but as of now it is looking good.

Oh I've been paying attention to everything going on with CU and Sanders, I'm just not a weirdo and have hate in my heart like you clearly do, take care now.

The one thing I like about Deion is that he is a pretty serious fisherman. He tried to break into Pro Bass Fishing’s top level with a celebrity exemption but that didn’t fly. It was probably for the best because he would have gotten destroyed.

resurrecting this thread cuz i made it :)

thinking on this fine day about JM and years 2022-2024.

  • JM said it: Hard things are hard. He is in a hard thing right now, and he is showing he's in it to accomplish something. If he was a flake, I think he would have left by now. 3 years is a solid tenure to give up at.
  • I am impressed by JM's handling of departing players. He is kind, and he lifts them up in the twitterverse
  • JM leans into the transfer portal concept, to turn it into UConn's friend instead of its enemy. Embrace the reality that kids are using us to get something better, and help them get there, so they can rave about us, to their younger bros coming up. I hate that it has to be this way, but his approach makes sense in a system UConn is designed to fail in.

  • JM sticks up for UConn (eg. Washington State/ Tampering, etc.) even though we are a forgotten program in a forgotten corner of the FBS map.
  • JM has a gentleman's respect for UMass and continues to play them, which though UMass is not a program we aspire to be like, we are inevitably connected to given our history and geography. I appreciate this, though I'm sure most don't care.

  • JM likes DB and UConn people - i don't think this is an act, I think it's who he is, and part of his overall embracing this season of his life and career.
  • JM is proud of UConn's accomplishments - he led his boys to a 9-4 season in a culture of "haters" - had we gone 3-9 they'd say we suck. We go 9-4, we still suck. So screw it, he says. Let's have some fun with it and forget it all.


all in all, I am so, so, so, so happy with JM and I hope he gets the ultimate reward of being part of the press conference when we announce our invitation to a P4 conference. I suspect given what it would have taken to reach that moment and the powerlessness of Dan Hurley's/Geno's accomplishments to do it for us, it may rank among his greatest moments in his football life, NFL or college. I am at the point where I am willing to claim that getting UConn into a P4 is harder than an NFL team winning a super bowl.

so again I say ------ Mora > Sanders.

Sadly his health is terrible and has been for years. He's had tons of surgeries and he almost died.

I think this press conference is to announce he's stepping away or retiring from coaching.
