Mora Offered Jerry Neuheisel OC Job Prior to 2025 Season

I’m curious if Sammis knew that Jerry N got offered his job and how he felt about it?

I wonder if this was actually in the Spring of ‘24 after the old OC left for the Browns.

Also I wonder if Noel Mazzone wasn’t the mastermind behind last Saturday considering he was brought in to “consult”.

Remember how he had out offense humming right after Edsall split?

prior to 2025 season?

gordon sammis -- "so what am I, chopped livah?"

JM: Jerry, I would really like for you to leave UCLA as their OC and the BiG and come to mighty UCONN to be our OC. What d'ya think?

JN: Gee Coach, as much as I like the weather in New England compared ot SoCal, and goodness your slate of opponents as an independent is really something......I mean when am I ever going to get a chance to play FIU and FAU in the same season!?......I think I'm going to pass.

JN (to self): Terrible to see the onset of dementia in a former mentor....sigh......

The article said that he was offered in the off season.

He was the Tight Ends coach at UCLA entering the season, he was promoted to OC after other coaches were let go in season. Also, I think you’re thinking of Jerry’s dad Rich when you speak of a mentor

...he would have been the TE coach at the time of the offer... He is the OC because the OC got fired.

I don't believe it actually happened, but if you're going to mock the situation at least get the facts correct.

Thanks. I did misread it as going from one OC position to another.

Wow no offense but what a stupid post. He was coaching the tight ends and was not given a chance to call plays even though he pleaded to get a chance. With ucla doing poorly they finally gave him a shot and he delivered.

I wonder if this not exactly right. At the end of last season, Brad Robbins, who was QB coach/pass game coordinator, left to become OC for Tulsa and Mora was looking for a replacement. Mora ended up hiring Pyce Tracy as QB coach/pass game coordinator. It wouldn't have surprised me if he reached out to Neuheisel to see if he was interested in the QB coach/pass game coordinator as Neuheisel was at UCLA with Mora and Mora seems to like to give young coaches a chance. So, instead of the job being the OC, it was really QB coach/pass game coordinator.

Yup… thought the same thing when the story first hit last week:

It was this past off season > it wouldn’t surprise me if it was to replace Brad Robbins (whom left to be OC @ Tulsa) as QB Coach/Pass Game Coordinator and the titles got lost in translation (my read only and could be off base but wouldn’t be the first time titles got stretched/confused)

It's something like this. Mora likes Sammis a great deal.

Dude is getting the HC job at UCLA. Worked out well for him
That would be surprising. I would think they might give it to the interim coach and keep him as OC. Neuheisel has never been a coordinator let alone a head coach anywhere.
