He is in the mountains. He has a job with extremely low expectations. Now, he can enjoy his golden years and still pull in millions a year.

His years at UConn repaired his reputation. And he repaired ours. Worked out great for everyone.

But let's be honest, CSU is not a step up. He didn't take the job there because he was dissatisfied here. He is winding down his career exactly as he wants to. He couldn't do that at UConn especially after he built up our expectations. Football just went from his job to his hobby. So let's not over analyze this or wonder how we could have keep him. There is nothing that Benedict could have offered him. It was a lifestyle decision.

All the best to Jim. The ony thing missing is a gold watch.
 
He is there to set them up for success in new conference since they are clearly off track right now. I dont think he has an easy job ahead of him. I dont know the roster makeup etc, but 2-9 and they only beat Northern Colorado by 4 looks to require complete overhaul.

Basically a lather, rinse, repeat of his 4 years here.

Yep that's the way I see it, he knew the expectations he created here. Add the huge loses to his roster combined with a tougher schedule in 2026 that could've dropped him back to 5-7/4-8. Then no one would offer him a job. So he hit when his name was hot, especially back to a state he has a family home in. Also he was mediocre 6-7, 3-9 until Burton and the donors "poured gas on the NIL" for him in 2024 and they actually brought in the weapons to throw the ball downfield.

The expectations at CSU are very high for football. They built a new stadium and have been trying to find the right coach to deliver the results. That said CSU is a rebuild and CSU just hired a coach who turns 65 next season. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t.

Really, their last conference championship was 2002. Since then their record is 94 - 172. That is not in line with having high expectations. They would be overjoyed with 6-6.

They have aspirations of getting a Big 12 invite. And, they didn't build a $220 million on campus stadium which opened in 2017 to be a low pressure situation. They just haven't found the right head coach as they have fired the last 3. Unfortunately, Mora at age 65 next season, just seems like a ST solution if he works out.

They don’t even have CFP aspirations. Mora will need to go 10-2 or better for 2 straight years, get ranked pre-season Top 20, then run the table and hope there isn’t another G5 team with a better resume in the AAC.

He’ll retire there a hero after going 6-6, 7-5, and then 9-3 with a trip to the Hawaii Bowl.

What, did you expect him to succeed with no NIL, while everyone else is paying players?
