I enjoy the Conference Tournament at Mohegan Sun going to the Semis Sunday & Monday Championship match-ups and have been looking forward to this weekend.

But, now the Cvirus concerns may impact my behavior.

I live in Pawtucket and, all of the sudden, we have Cvirus cases. The local CVS/Walmarts were out of hand sanitizer/others BEFORE the announcement. This morning I stopped at CVS and now people are calling for mask/sanitizer/other deliveries to meet them. The News Media are talking about avoiding public gatherings and - all at once - normal people at the Y/restaurants/grocery stores are questioning things like congregating in public.

So for me I'm still excited to go. But the world here is changing literally day-by-day. If things develop unexpectedly I think it possible attendance will be affected, or worse.

Lots of people at Mohegan and the restaurants, not all healthy on good days.

Don't like to see the world this way but I think both Mohegan & the 1st two NCAA Rounds at Storrs will be affected - at least for me as I'm taking it day-by-day.

I am curious to see how this situation is going to affect many sporting events in the coming weeks and months. Such as all the college basketball tournaments where huge crowds are expected along with usual events like the NBA, NHL and basically any indoor event.
I also wonder if outdoor events will be affected as much, such as NASCAR, MLB, etcetera.
Wow.

Wow.

Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Nvidia have all canceled their in-person major conferences coming up, and the FB conference is not until May. These conferences are HUGE. The AWS conference in Vegas a few months ago had something in the 35,000 attendees. So yeah, it would be interesting how sporting events will be affected.

Those conferences have a high number of Asian's attending and with China and Japan on restricted access to the US maybe the main reason for the cancellations.

I seriously doubt that is the reason.

Between a quarter and a third of the attendees to the last AWS here in Vegas were from Asia. Many of the high tech conferences that are held held here have a very high number of Asians.

On a more positive note for those going to the Mohegan Sun for the Tournament, I stumbled upon an MSN Lifestyles article on the Best Sandwiches in each state and the Connecticut winner is right down the shore in Noank at Abbott's Lobster in the Rough and it's call OMG Lobster Roll... :)

IMHO, the best lobster roll in Connecticut is at Fords -- also in Noank.

Are you healthy, be a careful as you normally be during flu season, wash your hands, keep your hands away from your face. The masks are a waste to keep you from getting it. This year alone over 18000 Americans have died from the flu, last year 40000.

Hot Lobster roll, with melted butter. Wonderful. Captain Scotts and Abbott's are not open for the season yet. Ford's opens tomorrow March 4th. Until 9pm

Generally the use of hand sanitizers is a waste - the sanitizers are anti-bacterial and what we are dealing with is a virus.

The CDC says to use warm water and soap, wash up to your elbows. Only wear the mask IF YOU have the flu or the coronavirus. What bugs me is that the casino's don't clean their porker chips and wonder how many people have gotten sick from handling those chips. You would think that someone would come up with a machine that can wash and sanitize the poker chips.

So you're saying that touching those poker chips is gambling with your health?

I wondered about that too, and a couple of days ago a quick Google search revealed several sources stating that sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol is effective at killing viruses.

I live about 5 miles from Noank. I agree that Ford's is way better than Abbott's. Abbott's is a high volume tourist destination and their food is mediocre on a good day.

Thanks! I have some spare time on Friday, and I'll be staying in Mystic. I see a Connecticut style Lobster Roll in my near future!

My wife is a hot lobster roll aficionado. If it's on the lunch menu that's what she will order. Her surprising favorite the 99 restaurant in Groton! A close second is Ford's other favorites are Frank's Gourmet Grill in Mystic and The Breakwater in Stonington. . Abbott's did not make her list.

When it is on the menu at the Oyster Club, very good. I only get a whole 3# lobster at Abbott's, steamers, chowder.

Not likely. I know folks that work for Facebook, who were supposed to be attending that conference, and it's actually internal and most of the people are not from Asia. My company actually cancelled our conference - much smaller scale but it's all relative in terms of revenue - and we only had a couple people coming internationally. It's mostly due to companies putting travel restrictions in place, where in some cases, even domestic travel needs to be approved.

I don't personally have the fear about it that some do, but no one can deny it's a big deal in terms of the reactions.
