Mohegan Sun bids to host men's and women's AAC tourney

The casinos suck. Have the tournament in a city where you can go out for drinks. Downtown Hartford alone has sooooo much more to offer than Mohegan, not to mention West Hartford.

When will this be decided for good? I don't care where it is as long as its competitive and we win.

Am I the only who thinks this is an awful idea?

Mohegan sun is not really close to anywhere and how many people from outside CT are going to travel there for this tournament and be stuck in a Casino? There is not even a golf course on the property is there?

Obviously a lot of people like Casinos, but a lot do not. I love to gamble, but would hate to be stuck in a place like Mohegan Sun for three days with no other options. (Norwalk is not an option)

Memphis has Tunica close, Cincinatti has casinos close. If people want Casino's why not put it in a city which has casinos and other things to do?

I dunno, I think this is an awful idea if you want good attendance outside of UConn fans.

Mystic is right down the road, too - spend a day with the kids at the aquarium and the village. Not that it compares to being in Times Square, or the San Antonio riverwalk, but it is something to kill a day if your team is done playing or has a bye.

Not saying it would be my first choice, but it isn't awful.

I don't think Mohegan Sun is a great venue, I just think it is easy and that fans of other schools will just plan a simple 3 day weekend and fly in/out. Very little planning required in terms of where to stay, eat etc.

I would prefer Hartford, but I also know Hartford. I will never fly to Memphis or Philly for this tourney. I don't think fans of other schools will fly to Hartford either.

Given that, Memphis and Hartford should host the tourney because they have real fans at their schools that will fill seats. I don't think Temple will fill the arena in Philly. Otherwise, put it in Orlando and hope every school travels well there.

You golf @ Keney Park during the BE Women's Tourney? I know I couldn't get a tee time in Central Park during the BE Tourney.;)

Talk about different strokes. I'd fly to Memphis and drive to Philly. And you couldn't get me to Orlando at gun point.

If I went to the womens tourney and the weather was nice enough I would golf at Wintonberry Hills or another great course around Hartford.

Memphis has great courses around the city as I am sure Cinci and Philli do as well. Weather will definitely be nice enough in Memphis too, the other you never know.

People travelling all the way want options. NYC has plenty of options outside of golf, Mohegan sun is not in the same ball park.

Memphis is kinda hellish in general - it's really not a nice place. I would not want to be trapped there for a couple of days - I wouldn't want to be in Hartford either.

Philly and Orlando are easier - Philly is closer to the schools that will give a s*** about the AAC tourney and there's no place on earth easier to fly to than Orlando. Plus, if UConn loses in the AAC tourney in Orlando, I can go to Epcot and drink around the world.

False comparison. You limit the Mohegan Sun property to it's foot print but expand a city to adjoining communities?

I more mean that Memphis, Cincinatti, and Philly you can walk to a lot of other options. Going to Mohegan Sun is just Mohegan Sun.

Mohegan is 30 min to Mystic. Memphis is 40 min to Tunica. Why be isolated in an area with just a casino when you can be in a city and drive to a casino if that is what you want?

I don't know, I haven't been to Mystic since I was a kid, but for a plan on an off-day at a conference tournament, that sounds pretty awful. Or, if not awful, very small time.

Plus, if UConn loses in the AAC tourney in Orlando, I can go to Epcot and drink around the world.

Returning to Epcot as an adult and realizing that all the countries serve their native beverages was a "how did I miss this when I was 7" moment for me. That big golf ball is a lot more pleasant with a few margaritas.

the more I read about this league, the more depressing it seems. Just go to Philadelphia and be done with it. the arena has quite a bit of history to it. The City is interesting and entertaining. It ain't Manhattan, but it is sure better than the alternatives...yuck. Do we even need to have a conference tournament? maybe we can get NCAA approval to just play a few more games?

Yeah - you're probably right. There's some good restaurants there, but probably not enough to keep adult tourney-goers entertained who don't want to gamble.
