So the last quarter of the season and Moriah is still on track for matching Jen's senior year in terms of Rebounds (100), Steals (100) Assists (200) and Points (400). Whether she actually hits those numbers or not she has put together a season to date that stands up to ANY Uconn guard from a statistical point. And she is shooting the ball better than any guard and especially any point guard I have checked. She does shoot as much as many have in the past, but her percentages are off the charts good in the second half and especially since Feb 1. And her A/TO ratio which is taking a beating at the moment is also still well ahead of the standards set by the greats. (And she is only a sophomore!)
So the numbers:
AACT Game #32
Rebounds 4, Steals 3, Assist 1, Points 7
AACT Game #33
Rebounds 2, Steals 3, Assist 7, Points 10
Totals:
104 (3.2), 87 (2.6), 168 (5.1), 330 (10.0)
Projections:
Rebounds 126, Steals 105, Assists 204, and Points 400
So rebounds are in the bag, but there is little or no margin on the other stats. Interestingly playing non-competitive games, and both of these were, may hinder Moriah stats wise as with the toll of bumps and bruises through the season, she is the first player Geno is resting. She got 26 minutes against Cinci and followed that with 27 against Rutgers - below her season average of 29 (which is also down over the last weeks from 30+) Tomorrow against Louisville the competition should improve but that may lead to more minutes and more stats. It also helps that Louisville's guards are not the strong part of their defense and also not the fleetest of foot.
On the shooting front - Moriah went 3-5 and 4-6 including 2-3 from three in the two games raising her season averages to: .572, .409, and .776 on FTs. With that kind of shooting it night be a good idea to find a few more shots per game. And the numbers go through the roof when you look at 2014 and from Feb 1 - her overall shooting percentage has been pretty constant for a while at .560-.590 but her three point shooting was below .300 in December:
In her last 18 Games (2014) she is shooting 21-35 from three for 60%, and
In her last 11 (Feb/Mar) 15 -23 for 65%
The bad - turnovers are up and her Assist/TO has fallen to its lowest level of the year at 2.90 - still great for someone handling and distributing as much as she does, but not in the 3.2 neighborhood she had been inhabiting for most of the year. (This compares to Sue during her senior campaign who was at 2.5.)
