MNT’s 2022

What exactly is the benefit to airing this out publicly?

This reeks of Berhalter trying to save face. He truly is the worst.
The story US Soccer is saying is that this convo was supposed to be off the record. Either that’s BS, or they aired locker room laundry to untrusted sources. Either way not good for GGG.

I find this highly unlikely since if it was off the record, he probably would've named the player. Also the words seem to have come in a speech he gave. Granted, it was a private event, but if you say these things to an open room, they become the property of everyone who hears them... unless it's a secret society or the mafia.

Let's see what we know. Do we have anything on Reyna being lazy at BVB? Or any other time with USMNT? Don't recall anything. So he just got lazy for the WC???? Hmmm

Has GGG ever lied about players? Yep. Actually about Reyna during WC. (saying he wasn't fit which he later back tracked on when Reyna said he was good to go). Has GGG lied about performance of the team? Yep. Multiple times making outlandish remarks like about how well his team played when they got blown out, stating he doesn't have Champions League scorers, when in fact he does.

Not sure I'd trust much coming out of the USA camp with GGG in charge.

But, I wasn't there, so who knows???

GGG has had public issues with the following players:
-Reyna
-Brooks
-McKennie
-Hoppe
-Miazga

I might be missing one or two. It seems to me he has problems managing the locker room.

Gio with a lengthy response on IG.

This has predictably gotten uglier after Berhalter decided to air things publicly for no other reason than to save face. I don’t see any way he’s back after this, but with the USSF, you just never know.

Why would anyone trust Gregg after this?

So, Gregg flubbed things by telling one of our top players he wouldn't play much. Player let that get to him, which lead Gregg to call out his lack of professionalism. Get rid of GB now.

I could be wrong but my gut tells me that USSF and Berhalter were fully aligned in the decision to air this dirty laundry.

They really had no choice because The Athletic had the details whether they liked it or not.

I'm new to the team but it really sounds like both sides are probably at fault here.

What exactly does "my role at the tournament would be very limited" mean? Does it just mean not starting or something else?
Gio played the entire second half plus 7 minutes so 52 minutes against the Dutch. That doesn't sound very limited. I understand he played very little up to that point.
Is it common for a coach to tell any player something like that, if in fact he said that?
Is it more likely Berhalter had already decided Gio wouldn't play much or that there were commitment issues?

You handle leads one to believe that your instincts and insights should deduce the answer and show us the guilty party.

Making his role limited was the first mistake.

With such a young team Ggg was still the most inexperienced of the lot.
They need a real coach

Correct.
Closest would be Marsch, obviously. I don't think he's ready -- he has to prove himself at Leeds/Europe. He doesn't need to win the PL, but maybe finish top half a couple years running and go far in the domestic cups.
Plus he's our only trailblazer and I want him to bust through the American stereotypes and get more guys chances, preferably assistant slots at big clubs to start.

For the US, Bielsa, Poch & Zidane are on my wish list

Marsch has jumped a shark. He's a clown like the rest of them.

USA ahead of Germany. How often does that happen? Ausgeziechnet!
