Missouri St (21) @ Loyola Chicago - 1/03/20

Loyola Chicago, after its 9-1 start and very close game with DePaul, took a disappointing loss to Western Michigan in its final OOC game.

This is a close game after 10 minutes. Missouri State up 16-14

The Ramblers are competing well, down by only 6 at halftime. It's worth remembering that this was a program left in complete shambles after a mass player exodus and the accusations of player mistreatment by Sheryl Swoopes in 2016.

Alexa Willard of MSU is having a great game, currently with 15 points, including 3 of 3 from the arc.

41-35 MSU at the half

MSU relying heavily on Willard who has 15 pts.

MSU still up by 6 after 3Q. MSU squandered chances early in 3Q to extend the lead, missed on several chippies in transition.

Missouri State went about 6 minutes without a field goal and surrendered the lead in mid-4Q. It's now a 1-point game at the last media TO, with Loyola free throws coming up.

Comical sequences by both teams amounts to nothing OT coming

Going to OT.

I thought Loyola might fall apart in the 4th.

What I don't understand is this: Game is tied and you have the ball with just under a minute left. Why are you holding the ball and deliberately using up the shot clock? Just to give the other team the chance to win the game?

Nice Buzzer Beater with interior post move MSU wins 74-72

Jasmine Franklin with the game winner at the buzzer in OT.

Missouri State survives.

All in all, the pace and energy in this game was a bit sleepy, especially for such a close game.

The improvement of Willard as a senior has been noteworthy. At 6'2", she elevates nicely on her jumper and continues to be very efficient shooting from inside and outside the arc. And don't put her on the line. She has been outstanding at the line dating back to high school (and probably before that). She played very well in the Preseason WNIT in November.
