We’re in the middle of the season. What do you want him to say right now?..he's going to figure it all out and we’re going to be fine moving forward.
Yes, I want him to take some kind of ownership rather than calling the players out that they "can't take his hard coaching". He constructed this roster, so who else is to blame? Some humility would be welcome from the self proclaimed "Best coach in the country" IMO

Amongst everything else already discussed, this is also a relatively speaking "low BBIQ" team.
The past few seasonsn every analyst noted how the ball movement was crisp, the passes were on point- hitting the recipient in stride, the off ball movement was constant.....
This season the ball is sticky. Much more dribbling, and it's often side to side or with back to the offense. Players wide open on cuts go unrewarded. Players off the ball are standing still or stutter stepping trying to figure out their place on the floor.
Might these also be the traits of a team that lacking in its point guard play?

Other than a starting PG, I'm not so sure we'll be busy in the portal. These are competitive kids, they know what they need to do to improve, I could see them working like crazy in the summer and coming back read to compete for spots. I've also heard that the soph class is very tight off the court, not an easy decision for any of them to transfer. I'm not sure of our scholarship situation, but what happens if only the seniors and Liam leave. Do we have room for everyone?
We have enough spots as is. But I’d really be surprised if we aren’t looking to fill more than the PG. Competitive or not, this is a business and every year will consist of recruiting over ppl on the roster. I can’t imagine everyone currently on the roster is happy with their PT as is and could possibly think, with three McDonald’s AAs coming in and a guy who some NBA ppl and Dan Hurley have raved about, that minutes will be opening up.

Here's some accountability.

“People aren’t respecting us outside the system,” Hurley said. “(Wednesday) we consciously drove the ball more. We’ve got to get into making our opponents concerned that we’re going to break things off and attack the rim, just to soften the defense up. We’ve become robotic, and a large part of that is me. You get drunk on your own success. We forced our players to be a little bit too robotic and now we’re trying to loosen the reins to go attack and create more. That was my fault, I screwed that up.”

Alternate access:
Hassan Diarra soldiers through pain, puts UConn men back in attack mode

That’s a start

Now tell us why:
1. You continue to high hedge w Reed when it’s a disaster waiting to happen
2. Why you don’t switch defenses AT ALL, when our MTM is a proven sieve
3. You constructed such a below average athletic roster
4. Etc

Take a lap. Hurley can do whatever he wants.

Deivon Smith for St. John's is listed at 6'-0" and he seems to be doing okay. (I only mention him because of the comparable height.) I don't think he's built like a barrel; he just looks he has strength to me, which is something we're looking for. I would like to see Nowell get some legitimate game reps but it seems like Hurley is either waiting until next season or doesn't have the confidence him as the future PG. I don't think we've seen nearly enough to give an honest evaluation.
D Smith is the fastest player in the BE. You can be small but you have to offset it with some other plus skill to offset, whether it be speed or handle or playmaking. You have to see something exceptional to offset handicaps. AN looks strong but not sure that how vital that trait is as a PG. Boatright was lightning quick.

If all we’re doing is a PG I would keep expectations tempered next year.

1. Nowell isn't going to stay to be a back-up
2. Mahaney will find a team closer to home. most likely a lower level D1 team.

RuffRuff says:

He's built like a barrel, which looks a little funky out there as a PG

Guess nobody told KEA that he looked funky!!!!
Bazz had that barrel (chest) look as well, Nothing wrong with being on the small side. It's not ideal but we don't live in a perfect world. It's not the size of the dog in the fight, It's the size of the fight in the dog, We should see a lot of running and pressure and get the mojo going. I flew from BDL on Wed and I saw once again all kinds of Uconn banners and pictures of Huskies. I was transfixed staring at that Husky with the big black collar and blue eyes. Great mojo, Stare at the Husky picture and then go up 35k feet and go 500 MPH.
C'mon lads!

I agree calling out the players opens the door. I personally think the effort has been there. It has been more about player’s mental errors, bad rotations and misguided schemes given rooster construction. We fell in love too much with Luke Murrray’s Euro Ball but never learned how to set a screen.
On defense, we also put the Big where he could help out try to cover a guard near half court but not back protecting the rim or in position for rebounds.

Hoping for something like AK or a low rent-Luka lol. Mullins is more athletic probably a better shooter, but from what I've seen from Furphy, is he has heady Cam-like intangibles and can create his own shot. I think of our recruits, because of the competition he's faced, his performance is biggest question mark. I'm taking the over because of his BBIQ, but there is also a chance his athleticism might be an issue. We will see.
