Who would you vote for POY & FOY, if you had a vote?

IMHO Griner will will POY in a landside. However, if I had a vote, it would go to Chiney Oguwmike. Where would Stanford be without her. I also think Odyssey Sims is the most important player on Baylor which is another reason why my vote would go to Chiney.

For FOY, Its a toss up between Breanna and Jewell Loyd of ND. Jewell may get the votes because she's starting for ND and Breanna comes off the bench. Breanna is playing 7 minutes less per game and is averaging 14.8 while Jewell is averaging 12.8. Whoever wins the next ND vs UConn game(s) may determine who wins the award. Are there any other freshmen in the running?

Sims is good, but once Baylor adjusted to her absence they would still be a top 5 team. Without Griner, they would be just in the top 20.

Graves is a candidate for FOY.

True Graves should be a candidate. however the winning FOY will probably come from a school that goes farther in the tournament. Either or both ND and Uconn should get that far and Lloyd or Stewart should win the award.

I think the multiple threads on AA status are, in effect, discussing the mid-year awards.

I'd pick Griner as POY. Chiney is really good but not at Nneka's level, plus they have 2 losses, including an historic one. Last year, I grouped Griner, Nneka, and Elena together, but in that order.

For FOY, I'm not sure now. Clearly, Breanna has the biggest upside. I think by the end of the year, she'll have it.

As I said in the AA threads, some players have impressed and others, partly due to injury, have been below their norms. I'd put Kelly and Tianna Hawkins in the first group. Alyssa Thomas, Elizabeth Williams, and Bria Hartley are among those in the second group. I hope this year's AA voting is based on actual performance this year--not on last year or on pre-season picks.

Though she wont win the national FOY..... Xylinda McDaniel of UNC should definitely be on the freshman all-american team... if there is such a thing.

Graves has has a nice freshman year. If she gets FOY or not. I think Russell will get it next year.

both of our losses were historic, the loss to Cal ended 82 conf win streak.

Nneka deserved POY over Griner last yr. I don't care what anyone says, her game is more complete, which she proved in the WNBA.

The Cal loss ended a very long streak. Those things happen, as you know from 2 years ago. The UConn loss was historically bad. Not even Chiney could help close the gap.

I agree that Nneka's game is more fully developed, but a talented player with a 7'4" wingspan is a huge force. Because Baylor ran the table, I would have given Griner POY. Nneka and Elena were close behind. I believe all 3 were unanimous AP AAs, which is quite something.

Nah, we've had very long winning streaks at Maples. The loss in conference means more, imho.

Being tall and having a big wing span is not everything. :)
