Mid Major Love: Players or Teams to Watch in 24-25

Here's an early-doesn't-mean-anything poll of the mid-majors.

That's giving A LOT of respect to Gonzaga based off of reputation. They are in rebuild mode with only 1 returning starter.

Seeing Oregon St. and Washington St. on this list just feels so wrong.

I get that it's an early meaningless poll but SDSU at #9 with everyone returning and Utah State being on the list with them finishing 5-25 last season is just lazy.

Hey -- UConn's Ines Bettencourt transferred to Gonzaga. I'm sure that explains their thinking. :D

That must be it.

They've replaced key players before and kept on rolling, so maybe it's not that crazy. Ejim, the one returning starter, is a nice building block.

I was thinking maybe UNLV was a little bit low, but looks like they are replacing most of their main contributors as well.

No Ejim from Gonzaga? That is just CRAZY.

I Talk Hoops is relatively new to the NCAAW/WNBA per their Twitter handle. Take their insights with a grain of salt.

The Naismith Awards group knows what's up. ;)

games start in a few days. time to settle it on the court. we can then throw all these polls and preseason whatevers in the trash.

Looking forward to seeing how Fairfield does this year. They also have a Canadian recruit I'm a fan of in Cyanne John. Had been targeted by quite a few P4 schools until she suffered back to back season ending injuries and lost a season due to COVID. Personally I think she's paired with a coach who will get the best out of her.
She looked good. Athletic and active. Goes by Cyanne Coe, now.

4pts 5r 2blk and 1a (nice pass) in 12 minutes.

Thanks for the update. Missed the game yesterday. Not surprised she changed her last name to her mother's.

Saw her develop since she was a kid. She's played up in age most of the time and never looked out of place. Was a two sport athlete playing hockey for a while too.

SOuth Dakota State looking solid as usual. Beat Creighton and Wisconsin. Next 3 games are against P5 schools (Duke, GaTech and Oregon), so they have a shot at getting in/near the top 25
They're in the Coaches Poll top 25 this week. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing them vs. Duke Sunday. Used to be all the Summit League games were on the non-pay ESPN app, but now they're on ESPN+. I can't quite bring myself to pony up for it, but that may just be a matter of time.

30 points/12 rebounds for Jordyn Jenkins today in UTSA's win over UTEP. 10-13 from the floor and 10-12 from the charity stripe.

Katie Dinnebier of Drake has probably put up the best stats of any woman in back-to-back games this season, scoring 40 and 39 points in those two games. 21-33 FG's, 15-25 on 3's, 22-26 on FT's, 6 RB's , 7 AST's, 5 steals.

Oh, by the way, the two games were against Iowa and Iowa State.

A legitimate finalist for national PG of the year.

Gonzaga (and Ines) continue to roll along. 4-2 on the young season. I just love watching Ines play. She is getting some quality minutes and playing really well. Beating pressure defenses with decent pace and knocking down shots. Way to go, Ines!!

18 points (career high) today and leading the MAAC in FG% at .745.

Cyanne might not win RotY in the conference - Quinnipiac has a good PG playing 36+ minutes per game - but, with the way she's developing, she might actually be the best freshman. Doing it on both ends of the floor.

^hockey comes up at the very end of this.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm a big fan of hers. Great person both on and off the court. Persevered through two ACL tears in consecutive years that hampered her recruiting. However, landing with Fairfield and Coach Thibault-Dudonis may be a blessing in disguise.

Really happy to see Cyanne Coe having a solid start to her college career. Personally, I think she's been under the radar, similar to Delaney Gibb of BYU when it comes to Canadian talent.

This is sooooo freaking awesome. I know I've said it before, but Yvonne Ejim is a really special player, and gets overlooked too much when people talk about the rise of Canadian Basketball. So happy for her and this accomplishment. Seeing her progress from her high school days is amazing.

Scored over 2000 points at D2 (they say it every single time she's mentioned on broadcasts). Has spent most of the year in an effective, but limited role off the Stags' bench -- until this week. Nice story, and a good example of answering the bell when your number is called.

Watching Maya McDermott and Katie Dinnebier go at it this afternoon was a lot of fun. It's crazy to me they may not get drafted or I won't really be able to watch them again after this month.

Dinnebier has scored 30+ 3 straight games, and 9 times this year. She's leading the nation in that category. Also 2 40 point games. All while averaging 7.5 assists/game, that's gotta be among the nation's leaders as well.

Really enjoyed watching those 2 in high school. Played in the same conference in the Des Moines area.

Didn't know where to put this, but thought it was a cool random March Madness fact to share. What an experience for this couple to have as an engaged couple playing for different programs.
