34 fouls and 4 guys fouled out? 44 foul shots for MSU. Wth? And I was making fun of Michigan in the game against St. John's? I was out tonight so couldn't watch the game but what was with all the fouling?

Boxscore:

There will be a lot of (warranted) discussion on the negatives (fouls), so I'll stick to the broad positives.

We led wire-to-wire against a top 25 team coached by Tom Izzo, with that lead at double digits far more often than not. We were down two of our five starters. We showed good toughness on the boards (minus that stretch about 2/3 of the way through the second half) and felt like we got a bucket whenever we needed one to stunt a mini MSU run. Ball and Karaban got basically whatever they wanted on the offensive end (though should've shot better, at least they made up for it from the line). Koroma and Millender are our 10th and 11th guys and they look like they could be legit rotation pieces on a tourney-bound team.

Overall, I'm pumped. Get healthy, get rested, and get to work next Monday.

I thought there were way too many fouls. But we fought through and got past MSU. Offense was okay. I thought Jaylin Stewart showed he can play a role off the bench along with Jayden Ross. I think we can be a scary team and competitive in the big east. Congrats Jayden and Jaylin. Go UConn

I hope Reed is all better bc we got beat on the boards all night
Not really, good competitive board action. Lots of second shots in the first half to establish the lead, then a nice 8 point run in the 3 qtr.

Im thankful the players, the coaches, and refs played this game like it counted.

That being said an exhibition game going nearly 2 and a half hours is bananas. The refs would ruin any flow that started to occur.

I know we foul alot. But holy smokes, every possession had a whistle. Not fun to watch imo.

Lot of fouls. Ball is much improved on driving to the rim. Looks great there. The 3 point shot should come back eventually.

Furphy’s picture may be next to the definition of feel for the game. Made a lot of great passes and was in position for loose balls and rebounds.

Ross may have earned a starting spot today. He looked the most confident and under control in his career today. 13 points on 4-5 shooting.

He’s on a Ray Allen trajectory now and if he doesn’t reach it it’s all Hurley’s fault. 😉

They didn’t actually foul out of the game because they allowed extra personal fouls (I didn’t realize that until multiple players came back in after announcers had clearly stated the previous foul was their fifth). But the whistles were sounding off like crazy. It garnered boos at times.

Best stretch of the game was without a center on the floor and AK at the 5. Encouraging for Ross to have that type of game vs a high major/top 25 caliber opponent, wouldn't surprise me if gets the nod over Stewart to start the season while Mullins is out, Stewart is still mostly just floating in and out of the game.

It's happening....

I think it’s Evan Miya who labels 10-0 runs as kill shots. The two championship teams consistently had kill shots culminating in the triple kill shot against Illinois. Last year, the kill shots largely disappeared but we had one against BC as well as tonight minus two starters each. That alone makes me think this team can be special as well.

Outside of the horrific ref-fest, everything was more or less solid. The final score was the closest the game had been pretty much the whole second half, and Ross impressed.

Very excited to see this team operate with Reed (and later on Mullins) in the equation
