I actually like all three RBs in the rotation. Mensah has exactly what HCRE said, explosiveness and burst. He has a chance to be a good one. He’ll get to play for coaches that understand offense and making defenses play sideline to sideline.

Losing sucks and there is not an over abundance of bright spots right now but I think he is one of them. Using 3 backs keeps the opposing defenses guessing what we're going to run because our passes to our RB's have been really effective lately.

The Yard spent the week beating up Newsome. Should have known he was going to have a nice week....

I took note of a few plays with both Mensah and Newsome in the backfield. I believe Newsome split left or went to the slot. Regardless it's a great set for UConn because Nesome take a LB or safety out of the box and gives Lashlee options for runs up the middle.
Even if a team blitzes there's a quick dump to Newsome in space.
Hopkins looked strong on his carries too. Looks like it took Lashlee about six quarters to figure out the RB rotation.
Remember Lashlee doesn't have any problem getting yardage via the run.

One of the offsides free plays Newsome ended up making a pretty good block. It consisted of the defender mauling him and trying to toss him to the ground by his collar but he gave BS time.

Newsome is one tough dude and has very good hands coming from a high school where they didn't throw to him much at all. He is the kind of player you want on your team because he gives a 100% all the time. The three backs are great as they all give you something different.

its kinda wild we almost didn't take Mensah. He is gonna wind up being one of the better backs in UConn history by time he's said and done here IMO.
