This season's men's soccer roster has been posted, two days before training camp opens. As usual, there has been no press release about the newcomers to the team.

In addition to the seniors who graduated, three players who saw significant playing time last year and with eligibility remaining are not on the team roster this season. They are Elliott Ackroyd, Moustapha Samb, and Fredrick Jonnson.

Is it just me, or is that a huge roster for soccer? 35 players?

I agree. I have been a bit mesmerized by the number of goalkeepers on the roster, this year there are six. Anyway, from my memory Ray Reid rosters used to be consistently just under 30, but they have been over 30 the last several years.

I like that. While I'm sure Ray Reid certainly appreciates the large crowds UConn soccer draws at home, it always seemed to me that he always wanted to operate the soccer program pretty much in secret. Men's soccer and baseball are the only UConn programs that never seem to issue press releases on the newcomers to the team. That has been a Ray Reid treat for years and years, so much so that it was well noted in the mens college soccer thread in the fan forums on bigsoccer.com, where Reid's name was mockingly identified in a title of a thread which mentioned all the teams that did not issue press releases on their newcomers. Also, unless a player is out for the year, it also seems to be really difficult to get information on injured players and how long they might be out for.
