This story from the Courant indicates that UConn plans to play their soccer matches at Dillon Stadium this season, according to CRDA executive director Michael Friemuth. No big surprise, even though the renovations to Dillon Stadium still are not quite finished.

>He expects it will host college and high school football, lacrosse, rugby and concerts. The University of Connecticut already plans to play its home soccer games next season at Dillon, while the school’s own new field in Storrs is being completed, he said.<

UConn soccer teams still haven't posted a home site to their games this fall, and no wonder considering all that still needs to be done.. Hard to imagine that Ray Reid and company would want to play in the place where they can't play at night.

If you look at where they are going to, we aren’t losing Danny Donigans!

Hmmm. 4 Power 5 transfers. All from perennial NCAA ranked teams. Loyola MD was pretty good too. The high schoolers are ranked good too. #4 goalkeeper in the country.

Hopefully they are the answer to what has plagued them the last couple years. For Reid's sake, they better be.

UConn comes in at No. 26 in the preseason College Soccer News preseason poll:

Comment attached to the UConn ranking:

>The additioin of transfer forward Jordan Hall who was an All-Big Ten First Team selection last year should help ease the pain of the loss of forward Abdou Mbacke Thiam who powered UConn's offense for the past four seasons. Transfers Ziyad Fekri and Jake Dengier should help address the gaps that exist on the defensive side of the ball. Redshirt senior Dayonn Harris (5g, 7a) and sophomore Ibrahima Diop (4g, 1a) return to add punch to the offense. Sophomore Felix Metzler, the 2018 AAC Rookie of the Year, and junior Robin Lapert are among key returning defenders. The Huskies allowed thirty goals last year. Improvement is needed in that crucial statistic but not at the expense of the attack. <

Other AAC teams that are ranked in this poll:

18. UCF
22. SMU

Also Nkosi Burgess not returning to the team.

A 30 man roster has been posted on the UConn website. One more player who was on last season's roster is not listed, Keith Dixon.

In addition, UConn soccer recently announced 15 newcomers to the team. The roster that is currently posted is missing three of those players, freshmen Mousse Wade, Thomas Decottignies, and Ben Awashie.

Do other NCAA D1 soccer teams have this much turnover right now or is this just a UConn thing?

Don't know for sure. I have a feeling that sports such as men's soccer that don't have lots of scholarships or scholarship money to offer have more roster turnover. However, UConn baseball operates under similar scholarship restraints, and it seems to me while there is a little roster turnover in UConn baseball, it isn't nearly anything like it is with the men's soccer program.

Most teams give out partial scholarships to stretch their money. Half and quarter scholarships are common in college.

Mousse Wade, Thomas Decottignies, and Ben Awashie are now all listed on the men's soccer roster.

Teams that rely on a decent percentage of foreign players do face this situation due to lure of professional clubs in their country, home sickness, the inability to stay scholastically, often they have acquaintances from their country at other US schools and want to join them, and, - in the case of Storrs - the winter weather!!

The AAC men’s soccer preseason poll was released today. UConn is picked to finish in third place in the conference this season, behind UCF and SMU. UConn did not pick up any first place votes.

Robert Lapert was picked as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Lapert and Felix Metzler were unanimous picks for the All-Conference Preseason Team. Dayonn Harris was also picked the the All-Conference Preason Team as well.

watched them tonight vs BU UConn won 3-1
very different team for RR
They play to the feet well and use a lot of midfield play
The defense is young and could be tested with a team that puts a lot of on ball pressure
Fekri (from Morocco) Diop (Senegal) Metzler (Germany) impressed
Jordan Hall (England/Rutgers) could be a key but needs to less creative and play within himself
Impressed with overall team speed
Speaking of speed - BU has a striker Matt McDonnell who may be the fastest white guy I've seen on a pitch
