Stolen from the men's board...they limit it to basketball quotes...use any sport if you wish:

Here are a few of the memorable sayings...by announcers or players. Can you
identify the circumstances surrounding it? Who said it? What is it referring to...etc? No research!

Got some of our own to puzzle us...great!

Start with an easy one:

Do you believe in miracles?

The band is on the field!

Down goes Frazier!

Better than most....better than most!

The Giants win the pennant!

Be the right club today! [Get the last one and you are a Maya-like trivia whiz]
Miracles was Al Michaels (USA vs USSR hockey)
The Giants win… was Russ Hodges

2. "I work Damn hard to make it look easy!" (not a sports quote but still great)

3. "I don't want them to get the wrong impression of ---------!"

4. "I want to thank God for making me a Yankee!"

5. "If I knew I would live this long I would have taken better care of myself!"

6. "I'm a better person, Wife, Mother, and at my job because I met and was coached by you!"

7. "I'm the straw that stirs the drink! Munson can only stir it bad!"

8. "I always wanted to join the circus when I was a kid and now I've realized my dream!"

9. "Nobody goes there any more it's too busy!"

10. "You can look it up!"

11."He went from Cy Young to Sayonara!"

12. "That's the first and only time I've seen Geno Auriemma cry!"

Joe DiMaggio, late in his career: Near the end of the season in a meaningless game with the Yanks far in front, he stretched a single into a double, bad knees and all. After the game, a reporter asked why he went all-out in such a game, and he replied, "There might be somebody who's never seen me play before."

Aluminny69: That sounds like Ted?

UConn fan 68: Right hole...right player. Announcer was Gary Koch. Koch had seen several players putt off the green from there...including a 4 putt from Fred Funk. Tiger was on 17 tee watching Funk's first putt...knew that he had to take a wide left line...and did so.

"Act like you've been there before".

Today's poseurs, take note.
On end zone dancing: "Act like you've done it before and act like you plan on doing it again" - John Riggins, who was "asked" to leave the White House because he was, well, inebriated... (that alone cements the Diesel in my hall of fame book.)

Don't be so humble, you're not that good. (DT)

Father Time is undefeated. (old sports cliche)

Just SO entertaining: The band is on the field!

California scores a late TD to take a 19-17 lead over favored Stanford.
John Elway [That John Elway] takes Stanford down the field to hit a short
field goal...Stanford 20-18...maybe 4 seconds left in the game.

Stanford kicker hits a squib kick...California player gets it....and laterals
galore happen. Runner evades tackles and around the 15 yard line the band
[both bands?] are on the field. He dodges everybody and scores a TD...
California 25-20. Does it count? Flags all over. It counts! 25-20 Cal.

Announcer justifiably goes quite crazy. One heart breaks...one is joyful.

Exactly, couldn't remember his name. Old Pirates fan from the Forbes Field days.
My brother was a Pirates fan. Me, not so much… Giants. I hated the way Prince actively “rooted” for the Bucs.
