“The Jet Award, named in honor of 1972 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny "the Jet" Rodgers, is presented annually to the top return specialist in college football. Brown joins an elite group of candidates being recognized for their exceptional abilities as kick and punt returners.“

-> “I don’t think (5.7 yards per carry) is a fluke,” Mora said. “I think Mel is the real deal. In stature, he might be short, but he is not small. He is really stout (176 pounds) and built well. He knows how to set the defense up, find a hole, and he has great cutback ability and great allusiveness in the open field. He also catches the ball well.” <-

-> Mora said that Brown, who is a senior this year, has matured as a pass protector, and that should open up more opportunities for him to run routes, because the team can trust him as a blocker now.

“When you ask how Mel is grown, it is in pass protection,” Mora said. “He sticks his nose in there and has become stout in pass protection. That is an overlooked value for a running back. <-

Deep WR room, deep RB room -- almost nobody knows it yet but there's something cooking in Storrs..

Wouldn't be surprised if Mel has for a very big year. He has the speed to have some really long runs.
