wow...no regular cable TV channel? wow.. Kinda sad, considering ESPN NEWS covered MD's game vs. ODU and couldn't carry our game locally...

that's actually a sad state of affairs to build fanbase in CT when you force everyone that can't make the game seek internet access to get the game.

embarrassing...

I know I'm gonna get chastised about 'showing up at the game' but the die hards on this board are very few compared to the amount of folks in this state. IMO, we're missing the boat... U think not showing the game on cable TV is gonna make people show up? NOT... especially after the past two seasons along with game 1...

ESPN is trying to build its ESPN3 venue by carrying games that attract an audience. We're being dragged into that manipulative effort. It has nothing to do with us. It has everything to do with ESPN's marketing schemes.

It stinks that ESPN continues to bury UCONN. On the other hand, there is a chance this game gets ugly, we might be better off not having it on display.

Thankfully everything changes when the new contract kicks in.

There’s more to it that this; but basically: Winning = TV, losing to Towson at home = no TV

.-.
Somehow losing to Towson really stung because I was forced to watch it on the iPad. Kind of like 'if things could get any worse...'

Basically, we are providing programming for their digital outlet. But, understand that they will not be putting a Michigan/Notre Dame calibre game on ESPN3. Knowing that let's us know where UConn is on the totem poll.

Heck, I'm just happy I can watch it in NJ.

UConn doesn't decide what games are put on TV.
UConn doesn't decide the game time for games put on TV.
UConn doesn't decide which ESPN channel they are broadcast on.

If, like ktuck, you have followed UConn for years and still didn't realize that, please keep reading.

Water is wet.
Fire burns.
stinks.

Any other questions?

Oh Crap. I thought the game was going to be on the Watch ESPN App.

For this game (and this game pretty much only), you're wrong.

We asked for a night game for Yom Kippur, despite the impact on TV placement. We got ESPN3. So be it.

Only 10 posts before someone has the answer on something that has been discussed in a dozen threads.

Instead it's conspiracy theories and lunacy prior.

.-.
I thought it would be on Sports NY channel as was the Towson game?
Towson wasn't on SNY. MD won't be since there is a Met's game in that timeslot.

Sigh. No, it won't be on SNY because it's an ESPN3 exclusive.

Your previous post said it went to ESPN3 because we asked for a night game (Yom Kippur). Now, you wanna give another poster crap for suggesting that there is something else on at night during the night time slot that we requested??? Settle down...

No, what I'm saying is that SNY couldn't have bought rights to this game, unless they paid an unbelievably high amount, Met game or no Met game. ESPN wants some content to be ESPN3 exclusive, and this is is some of it.

Okay, gotcha. One wonders though if they would have been willing to pony up a higher price if they didn't have the baseball game going up against it. I'm not sure how much else they have on their network, besides a "Jets talk" half-hour and those God-awful Mets...

That has zero to do with this. This game was earmarked for ESPN3 in July.

If both programs had won over the previous two years, the game would have been televised.

Probably......but I was responding to the poster that said losing to Towson = no TV. We could've beaten Towson by 40 and we'd still be on ESPN3.

You haven't shown how anything I wrote is wrong.

We didn't decide whether or not this game would be on TV. ESPN did.
We didn't decide what time the game would be played. (As you said. We asked for a night game. ESPN allowed it, but we needed their permission.)

No, in this case, I'm not wrong.

Or...having no one interested, it became an ESPN exclusive.

Are they all going to be on ESPN3??If so, I don't get that off channel and i am sure it will not help in getting fans to support this team. I suppose it doesn't really matter much, considering the miserable first game played against Towson, but ESPN3??? that is the bottom of the bottom. Why not ESPN U? Screw ESPN.

ESPN3 is actually more widely available than SNY or ESPNU if you don't have digital or HD cable. It's been explained here numerous times and on numerous threads.

What changes when the new contract kicks in? Better exposure. What coverage changes?
