McD AA Rosters are out

Landrew is a big-bodied wing with developing guard skills. Measuring in at 6-foot-6 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, he has a powerful frame from head-to-toe rooted in his years spent on the football field. He brings that same physicality and toughness to the hardwood, but now that he’s focusing exclusively on basketball, his game is starting to blossom at a rapid rate.

He’s an ascending shooter with very soft natural touch. He made just under 34% of his attempts from three in 3SSB play, but knocked down 46% of his open catch-and-shoot threes, giving him extreme gravity as a floor-spacer. He still twists into a lower release, which may be why he’s not yet as consistent on the move and especially off the dribble (1-15 on dribble jumpers in 3SSB play). There’s clear confidence though and if he becomes a truly knockdown type shot-maker, it unlocks a lot of higher upside outcomes.

He's already a great blend player with a high floor because he’s smart, multi-positional, physical, can grab and go, and offer some secondary creation. He also has a very good left hand, is a terrific offensive rebounder (2.4 per game), starting to flash some off-ball cutting, and an efficient rim finisher (65%), despite not being a dynamic vertical athlete. Defensively, he has good hands (1.3 steals), great strength and balance in his lower body, but lacks ideal foot speed, so more switchable up the line-up than down.
Solo is a dynamic vertical athlete but you don’t consider him an athlete. You constantly move the goal posts to fit your tired and irrelevant narratives.

Enough already. We dominated CBB for two straight years with below average athleticism. You refuse to see it. Whatever dude.

How is he a below the rim player at 6-7 and a 2 sport athlete, a receiver that I thought I heard had some top programs interested in him.

Does anyone know if Ruff's assessment of him is accurate?
I think he just means he's not an explosive run and jump guy but no he's not earthbound.

Caron comparison is pretty good but don't expect him to be as good as him.

That would be very unrealistic expectations. Caron was 20 years old when he got to UConn and was a stud right off the bat. He was also a top 10 recruit by the recruiting services that ranked post graduates.

I don’t think being a football player = being a great basketball athlete like the inverse can be true.

At 6’6, you do not have to be a high level athlete to be a stand out receiver. Especially as a leaper.

And was likely the second best player in that class alongside Zach Randolph.

Colben definitely got snubbed. Hes a bad man. Kids going to be good. Im going back a long way but one guy i always think about at this time of year when the McDs get announced is Ray Allen. If you saw him play his freshmen season he was incredible. Easily averages 20ppg if he had started. He was great from day one. Unreal he was here for 3 years. Whatever happened to him anyway? Lol!
He was at UConn for three years partially because the portion of our fan base that wants to annoint - and takes great satisfaction in touting - the McNeeley's and Mullin's as "one-and-doners". It doesn't help the program nearly as much as an Allen playing for 3 years. Or a Donyell or RIP or Emeka or Ben Gordon. Now UConn has players leaving TOO EARLY (when another year or two would help them - and their game mature). That's you Hamilton, Bouknight, McNeeley and maybe Mullins. Mullins will be an outstanding pro, but needs to get stronger, play defense more effectively, become more consistent with his outside shot which has the potential to be all star quality.

He was at UConn for 3 years because it was a completely different era, an era that isn't coming back so the majority of us that are rational and understand the current college landscape don't spend our time crying and complaining about it.

Find a way to change it back. All schools. This is collegiate athletics, time for colleges to reinstitute control of it's school operated "extra-curricular" activity.

The toothpaste isnt going back in the tube. I like wearing MC Hammer pants but that was nearly 40 years ago and theyre not coming back. 🤣

You are definitely right, but it’s hard to fault the kids and their families. Try putting yourself in those shoes and think about what you would do.

What I would do is stay 2 or 3 years and make sure I was physically and mentally mature before going on to compete against grown-ass men. I would avoid the Liam McNeeley mistake.

Says who? Take back control of institutional "extra curricular activites". These are our rules and you can play or not play. We decide how this sport will be played. You don't. Just a matter of will.

And magically going forward people are going to stop suing them for doing this?

Now take a look at this draft class and tell me where Liam McNeeley would have been drafted. Spoiler, it's later than where he was taken last year

also noteworthy is mcdonalds is a fast food ultra processed and engineered food place - their selections for AA this year echo that.

.-.
We are not a burger boy destination. We have by far fewer McDonald's All Americans than any school with two or more titles

I like it that way, shows how good our coaches are
I like it as long as we keep winning. In 24 we had Castle. Last year we had McNeeley. This year we have Mullins and Reibe. We had Adams too until he left to make room for Smith. So I would prefer a mix of premium talent and experienced transfers or inhouse developed talent.

You can't control what "student athletes" want to do. I suspect we are moving toward a pro model with contracts and signing bonuses and punitive buyouts to discourage leaving early. But the best players will be able to negotiate favorable contracts just like the pros. Some schools with limited budgets will try to win with experience over talent. Schools like Duke are still trying to win with the best freshmen in the country but Hurley has shown that a mixture of talent and experience is more effective.

Get to pair him with a 6'7" shooting guard ranked around 20, Massimo Adams. Big back court. Good for UNC. Of all the BB's, they're the one I least detest. Kansas next. Duke & UK losing bring smiles to me.
I grew up a UNC fan before I attended UConn. Lived in Chapel Hill for a while while my mother attended nursing school. But I lost a lot of respect for that program when Jerry Stackhouse broke the "paper classes" scandal.

So play into your junior year or, senior year.

Suing them (the institutions of higher learning) for what: establishing/modifying rules and standards for their extracurricular activities and programs? Show some balls.
