While giving feedback to my fine colleague @SCspur about whether SC is a good defensive team based on who they played, I went to Massey (still to early to really gauge but it has some relevance) and noted some rather “soft” teams at #314, #213, #324 on their OOC. Whereas UConn has #84, #76, #71, #68, #67,#63 #41 As our worst teams on our OOC. Our conference has 4 pathetic teams at #282, #236, #208 and #200 that we have to play. So the notion we might have to schedule tougher is somewhat valid.
That said, some schools take it to extremes and I must apologize to all the SC faithful as you are one of the better ones (still though #300+ teams???)
MSU should be EMBARRASSED #172, #166, #240, #249, #261 plus #126, #133, #136.
Maryland has 317, 244, 232, 271, plus GW at #143 (Jen- what the heck?)
Baylor has #312, #266, #322, #264, #201, #163
Tenn has #214, #270, #311, #212, #344, #284, #203,#202,#287 SERIOUSLY? I will believe in Coach Jolly when she stops this pathetic OOC romp. Not her fault yet so...

I get some teams play former assistants or schools close to a player on their team so some rankings can’t be helped but the degree the above teams schedule is pathetic as they should be leading the way as top programs should- ND, Stanford, Louisville, even USF.
For the fans of the above teams don’t even try to justify that many cupcakes on your schedule. You want to be considered elite, act like it.

To argue with your point of SC early matchups, the Gamecocks still have games left against South Dakota, Temple, Purdue, Duke, UConn, Indiana, Baylor, and Washington St. Most if not all those teams are top 100 teams per massey. Miss St Otho has scheduled terribly so yes I agree about your point.

To be honest when I'm looking at the scores of games the top 25 is playing, I don't even recognize some of the opponents. For example, South Carolina destroyed a school called Upstate. I know UConn isn't exactly playing hard teams right now, but at least everyone knows Cal, Vandy, Temple, Virginia, Ohio St, etc. Like people have at least heard of our opponents, never mind we still have games against Baylor, Oregon, South Carolina, Notre Dame, and Tennessee.

Two of the four teams UCONN has played are on South Carolina's schedule.

South Carolina has played a top five team and a road game against a team on UCONN's schedule in its first five.

Sorry that we have two teams within easy driving distance and the mother of one of our former player's teams in the early season.

We can certainly compare Massey numbers at the end of the year if you want.

but I guess we'll all be in suspense a little longer to see if South Carolina has a good defensive team. Pins and needles.
