Maya will be playing for Ros Casares in Europe this season, but according to the Star Tribune she first plans to take a couple of months off after the playoffs conclude. Smart for her - she needs to give her body a break. She was quoted as saying she felt run down in August, before being re-energized as the team approached its exciting playoff run.

Very smart move, Maya.

Rest is an important part of intelligent training for all athletes -- from the uber elite to role players on middle school teams.

A rest period now means more energy next summer -- when Husky Nation is hoping to see you win a gold medal wearing a USA Jersey.

Maya has played a lot of games in the last 12 months. She won a gold medal in Europe in October after several games, played 38 games (plus 2 exhibitions) with UConn, 34 regular season games with the Lynx, and 6 playoff games. That totals 90 games or so. As a rookie, she is not accustomed to so many games. (I think she is about 80-11 over that span!)

Enjoy your rest!

She can afford it. A blessing.

'tis true $$$ Nike

It will be *really* interesting to see just how much her time overseas and her first season in the WNBA impacts her performance at next year's Olympic trials, vs. the WC trials.....

Maya has a plan....always has.....good for her!

Hey...I'm hoping the Minny series is over soon enough for our Georgia Peach to put in an appearance at First Night. Or if not then....at some point during the preseason for some tutorials for our current players. Just having her hang for a few days would give the team some sizzle.
