Wonder if Maya is comtemplating a run for office to make a difference. She left WNBA for a different calling? There is no doubt in my mind that she will succeed wherever and whenever at whatever she will do.

My guess is that she is taking her recuperation year in the year prior to the Olympics, so that she can play in the WNBA in 2020 and show everyone why she needs to be on the Olympic team in a critical role. That's exactly what Diana did in 2015.

Ummm. In 2015 UMMC Ekaterinburg paid Diana not to play. I think she had close to a $1.5m contract with them at that point. She sat because they were paying her to sit -- despite how the WNBA wanted to spin it.

I was really hoping that when Maya announced the year off she was going to pursue a law degree. Maybe she still is, just taking a year to build her CV to apply.
