Moore led UConn to perfect seasons and national championships in 2009 and '10, then was selected as the No. 1 pick in the 2011 WNBA draft. She joined Augustus, who was the No. 1 pick in 2006 out of LSU, with the Lynx. Minnesota then made the WNBA Finals six of the next seven seasons, winning titles in 2011, '13, '15 and '17

Very happy for her, and not the least bit surprised.

Maya is simply one of, if not the best, champions we've ever had. She has won championships at every level she ever played in. High school, college, wnba, Europe, and China. In addition to world championships and Olympic gold medals. Simply an amazing career. And God knows how many more championships she could of won in the wnba, in addition to the 4 she already holds.

Maya, Seimone, and Taj together. Very fitting for Lynx fans. Congratulations to all of the selectees.

Note one of the selectees: Sue Phillips, Coach at Archbishop Mitty and for Team USA. Sue is the coach of UConn recruit Morgan Cheli. Morgan will move on to be coached by Geno and CD, who are also inductees.

Take a look at Maya's record:

She won AAU, high school, college, WNBA, Chinese League, Spanish League, Euro League, World Cup, and Olympic championships. In 16 years, she won a major championship almost every year.

In the context of UConn's experience over the past 3 seasons, note that Maya missed 1 game (for precautionary reasons) in 16 years. She was the Lou Gehrig/Cal Ripken of basketball.

UConn has had 6 undefeated seasons. Three other teams have had undefeated seasons. The ONLY team to have consecutive undefeated seasons was UConn in 2008-09 and 2009-10, led by Maya Moore and Tina Charles.

So, does this mean that Mayas #23 will be retired next year? She is our all time leading scorer and I believe UConns requirement to have their number retired is the induction into the Womens Hall of Fame. Or is the requirement the Naismith Hall of Fame in Springfield?

This is why she is my goat.

Catchings, Bird and Moore are my all time favorite women's players, both collegiately and professionally. All three of them had amazing work ethics, handled themselves professionally with class, and were amazing basketball players who never took off a single game or play. Moore likely would have stayed as long as the other two but she made a different choice and it appears to have been the right one for her.

The others for retirement were National Basketball HOF. Just a matter of time. Based on her contemporaries and who is already in there. The only reason she isn’t there already is I believe she officially retired well after she stopped playing.
