Some "speculation" of two UCONN POI facing off against each other
in the FIBA U17 Women's World Cup 2024 on Sunday July 19th in Mexico at 22:00
Mexican time zone?? or 10 PM EST ??
Players to be eligible must have been born after January 1, 2006.
The game is Australia's U17 team vs Croatia's U17 team
the potential matchup is Lara Somfai, 192 cm (height per FIBA, 2023 = approximately 6'4")
Lara's date of birth is March 28, 2007 (17years old)
versus Olivia Vukosa, 194 cm (height per FIBA, 2023 = 6'4"). Unlike the USA team the
rosters have not yet been announced for their respective teams.
But here are there FIBA stats from last summer's competition:
At the FIBA U16 Women's Asia Championship 2023 in which Lara only played two
of seven games, note: "COACH'S DECISON" = DNP in 5 games
Lara PPG 16, FG % 11 of 22 50 %, 2 point shooting: 9/19, 3 pointers 2/3 = 66.7% , 5 rebounds per game and
an efficiency of 24 in one game vs New Zealand.
At the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2023 Olivia played all 7 games.
Olivia PPG 22.6, rebounds 17.1 !! per game and
an efficiency of 28.9. Sorry I did not dig out Olivia separate FG % etc.
So, if both "players of interest" are on their respective team it will be power forward vs post or post vs post??
Lara 192 cm vs Olivia 194 cm.! POI Class of 2025 vs POI Class of 2026! 17 year old vs 16 year old!
Isn't that exciting! I hope it happens. Any Speculations out there in the BONEYARD or
is it too soon to consider?? Z.
