OT: Masters…who you got?

Rose with a stellar opening round. I could see Bryson making a charge up to the lead tomorrow. Feel bad for Rory. He’s gonna have to shoot low tomorrow to get back in the hunt.
Curious to see Bryson today with the high winds. Looking for Morikawa to put up a good score and move up with his iron play.

And why does everyone like Rory? I find him so cocky and unlikeable.

Cocky & unlikeable has been a tossup between Koepka and DeChambeau for several years now. I'm sure others will rise to the top. I wouldn't put Rory anywhere near the top of that group.

I could do without some of Rory's behavior, but I support him due to his stand for the PGA vs LIV. Of course, the PGA's stance later changed. Many golf stars and other athletes are cocky. It goes with the territory. And Rory has supported the Travelers's Championship multiple times.

Scottie had a couple hole blip but bounced back nicely from -4 to -6 now. I would bet on him.

Bryson gets over a million views per YouTube video he puts up. He is doing okay in the likeability department now that he can counter the media portraying him as a villian

Langer +3 and Couples +4 miss the cut. Freddy is hitting 7 and 9 woods instead of even medium irons. I mean 3 over is still a ridiculously good score on that course. No amateurs made the cut, how great are they at that age to do that?
I give those guys all the credit in the world. I am younger than both and if I played a few times a week I could still break 80 on a few of the courses I play in the West Palm area. But and a big but, from the white tees because I am a good 50 yards shorter maybe more than I was in my mid 50’s.

Also, I pretty much stink compared to even my mid 50’s. The game is so much harder when your hitting woods or 5 irons to greens you used to use 3 wood -7 iron to reach. It is way too much of a reminder of Father Time. So I gave up and pretty much stopped playing.


Once you get to 60 or slightly over things change. You wake up every morning and you thank god that you did. Then you take an inventory of what hurts. Are some the pains from the day before lingering or are they gone replaced just by the requisite stiff lower back. A 16 oz Yeti tumbler filled with coffee and a quick glance at the news and BY, then get moving, I have found that moving is a must. Get as much walking or just moving, my younger wife loves the older me, laundry ( and we have 10 yr old and 16 yr old boys….so laundry is kind of like a box of chocolates and thats all I have to say about that…….dishes and vacuuming are now aerobic exercise for me. The payback, she lets me play poker a few nights a week and a good ten hour session on Saturday.

I am not in horrible shape in fact was in fairly good shape into my late 50’s but 60 to me is when I felt it. I cannot imagine how good these guys are to be able to go out there play a 7,000 yd track in their mid to late 60’s just amazing in my mind. And they both could have played the weekend physically (Langer probably more so than Couples).

They walk around. And hit a golf ball. And don’t carry their own clubs. This is not an Iron Man Triathlon.

Pickleball and Paddleball many years ago, were invented for people, and there are millions of them, who never had the lightbulb go on in their heads, no matter how much they played, about the proper way to hold a tennis racquet, serve a tennis ball, and just basically control the racquet face. Tennis is still king and always will be, and pickleball will grow but I see it eventually going the way that Paddleball and Paddleball courts did back in the 1980’s. Tennis and Golf are very similar in that hitting with power AND accuracy are so dependent on controlling the club face or racquet face.

Good post. I’ll provide a bit of unsolicited advice…since it’s the BY and telling folks what to do and think is part of the charm here.

GET A REAL EXERCISE PROGRAM—-and look at your diet. How much processed crap are you eating? No reason you can’t feel much better! Doing laundry is not exercise

I follow Dr Peter Attia and Dr Rhonda Patrick online. They have wonderful info on their YT and podcasts about living better longer. It’s not just about lifespan…it’s about healthspan!

You have young kids..put in the work. Watch Attia talk about the centenarian decathlon!!!

You need to work out more as you get older..not less. You can’t stop Father Time but you can slow him down

Had to wait for Amen Corner coverage to see him for three holes. It's the same lack of respect that the announcers showed him when he was up and coming. They would mock his scientific, consistent and analytical approach as that of a "mad scientist". Few have the discipline and mental intellect to play golf this way. Few would want to but that's his thing.

glad you said that. I am a fan of DeChambeau and Mickelson, and they absolutely refuse to cover PM too. I watched all the coverage yesterday and they finally showed him and he put it in the creek. They definitely choose who they want to promote.

Try to walk ten miles up and down hills and at times in 90 degrees heat. Then do that 4 days in a row. Not to mention the 150 or so balls that they hit everyday before each round. Not to mention the mental toughness of staying focused while all that is going on. Yeah I thought the same thing when I was in my mid fifties.

Go walk ten miles today up and down hills if you are 65 or older let me know how you feel when you are done.

I always thought you were a bit older, your response makes me think you are in you mid to late forties if you don’t get any of what I have said. And if you are in your sixties congratulations because if you still think this is easy then you must be in terrific shape for your age.

Well you asked the question how great are these guys? My answer pretty great. But whatever…..perhaps it’s not the answer that led to the reply. My money is on it had nothing to do with the answer…….

Thanks for the advise and I mean it truly…no sarcasm. Yes there was a bit of hyperbole on the laundry and household chores. I swim about 45 minutes a day, seven surgeries on my right knee and I still have all my own joints. But I need another meniscus surgery so bike riding is out until I get that done. My ortho is somewhat amazed that after 5 meniscus surgeries an ACL and a process call subchrondoplasty I still have enough cartilage to have the procedure.

A herniated disc is not fun and that takes some time every morning to get loose. But I have heard horror stories about the fusion surgery in the lumbar area mine would be L 3and 4 but we have not even talked about that surgery.

I wish I had the diet part down a little better. I get regular checkups twice per year have all the required screening just went through a complete physical and recently the doctor took me off my, statin. Now working on my blood pressure which is ok except the bottom number likes to hover in the low 80’s without meds.

However even if I did everything perfect playing 72 holes of golf in four days walking the course is more taxing on the body than most people think it is and I think I would feel it by the weekend and balls would be flying all over the place once my legs got tired.
 
Complete redboarding I admit, but the bet was Rory after his even par first round. Anyone know what his odds were then? I had heard that Rory is a slow starter and he wasn't that bad Thursday. I have a way of identifying good bets after it's too late. My man Collin is still in this though.

Totally agree on the golf. Was more focused on your health

I totally understand the joint issues. When I was in my 30s I had a horrific ski accident. My knee bent the wrong way (ski boot bounced of my chest), and was totally dislocated. 4 cadaver ligaments and an EXTRAORDINARILY gifted surgeon put me back together…and I still ski a bit

Point is that doing as much strength training as feasible in addition to cardio is key for maintaining mobility. It we don’t strength train, we lose muscle faster

Processed food really increases inflammation and joint pain. Taking creatine seems to have helped mine a bit

Start lifting weights if you don't already. Best thing you can do for your body as you get older.

Your Pickleball vs Tennis perspective is laughable. Tennis growth is flat/shrinking. At the current rate, Pickleball is going to pass Tennis in participants by 2026.

Yeah sure. That’s what everyone said about Paddleball, 30 years ago. Lol. Pickelball is fun to play and much easier to play well than tennis is, but so is Ping Pong, racquetball, squash, badminton and croquet. Take a tennis lesson, and maybe the light will go on for you. I don’t see ESPN, CBS, or NBC preempting hours of air time for Pickleball Tournaments like they do for Wimbledon, The French Open, The Australian Open or The US Open. Maybe the next Richard Williams should school his two young daughters in Pickelball instead? Show me one high school or middle school in the state of Connecticut that has pickelball courts, or Pickelball teams.
