We don't need to be this again but we need some of it again, we barely had any of it last season and now it's completely gone. The back to back teams had Clingan and Jackson and then Clingan and Castle with Samson.

If you look at this roster, the way they play on the court, and their highlights for the season you'll be wondering where the hell did all the dunks go? Where did the running go? Where did the alley oops go? Where did the resounding (give me that s^^^) blocks and rebounds go?

Watching the uic vs drake game now and the announcer just made this same point. These are energy plays. You need these during the game. UConn usually tries to get them from the 3pt line and more times than not it kills momentum when you miss. There is no energy guy on this team Ross tries at times but there really is no energy guy on this team.

Agree with this. Demary is the only guy that can take his guy off the dribble. You need 2 of those on the court at all times
100% - Hurley tends to get an idea in his head and goes overboard on it, it seems. You need players that can drive action, attract defenses, not just perch and expect to catch and shoot. You need guys that can create off defense.

Solo was awful at the rim today - has no ability to take the ball strong to the rim, ends up flipping these loose shots up that barely draw iron off the backboard.
It was a bad performance, but the team isn't going to go 3-24 from 3 again for the rest of the season. It sucks we lost the Big East regular season title today, but it is what it is.

I've already moved on. Time for the BET and NCAAT. One performance isn't going to make me lose faith in this team at this point. This is the same team that smashed St Johns a couple weeks ago. As Hurley said a couple days ago, out floor is low but our ceiling is incredibly high. They can still rattle off 6 straight and get the ultimate prize.
Issue is their reliance on the 3. Cold from 3 can happen, hasn't been the first time.

I actually hope Hurley does get suspended keep him away from the media on Thursday for his own good and give Kimani with the rest of the staff a chance to give this team a spark. Have Hurley comeback refreshed and re energized.

He said the same thing last year, too.

I’d like to think that we’re bringing in two above average athletes and will make it a point to bring in an athletic 4, 5, and 1. You also can’t put a team out there with basically one player who can take someone off the dribble. Going on two years of that, too.
It's just so strange he hasn't corrected it in two seasons and he didn't fix the issue with the freshmen coming in for next season either.

For such a smart and great coach it makes no sense.

This is why I try to watch less sports as I get older. 6 Natties including 2 of the last 3, a 4 loss season and I’m pissed off and my weekend ruined. It’s win or feel like death
I was thinking the same exact thing. We win and it’s ho hum. We lose and it’s Armageddon. We are spoiled. I try to remind myself of how bad we were 5+ years ago and this usually helps me calm down. We are good and have a shot. That’s all you can ask for.

I just watched the replay. There was no foul by Gold. He went straight straight up never brought an arm down. Demary just ran into him
It's a foul for Duke in the ACC 100% of the time but UConn isn't Duke😏...oh wait we are though. Somebody forgot to tell the BE brass.
.
The BE doesn't care about 1 seeds in the dance, they're happy being on par with the WCC.

Bigger concern is playing like a team that won’t get out of the first weekend
Get used to it. This is how everyone is going to come after us. If we don't shoot, an turn the ball over like its xmas, we will be toast very early.

Again, the resemblance to ‘06.
IMO this team doesn’t have half the talent as the 2006 team squandered away that afternoon vs George Mason. Hell, that team sent five guys to the NBA, and Rashad Anderson wasn’t one of them.

This cold from 3 doesn't happen often. They shot 13%. I would gladly bet money they don't shoot this poorly again for the rest of the season, regardless of how far they go

Didnt scroll the whole thread but why was the end of the game not on the radio? Was pissed off so got in the car to drive, 97.9 was just the national Fox show.
The Women's game was on 97.9 and the Men's game was on 105.9. Women started at 12:00 noon, by the time you got in the car, the women's game was over which is why you heard the Fox national show.

Do we keep looking for the outliers that have them lose or play close with non tourney teams?

I disagree they had a ton of good looks - AK took lots of deep threes.

Good news: Shot 17-18 from the line, Almost 100%.

Bad News: 3-24 from 3. 12.5%.

Imagine if they hit just one more three. We might have pulled out that game.

Conclusion : A very good team having a very bad day!

What to expect: I'm just not sure what to expect from this team. They look like a team that can beat anyone but also one that can lose to just about anyone.
It's what Hurley said and I agree with it: high ceiling, low floor.

Disappointing end to the regular season. Was the team looking ahead? Overlooking a pretty bad Marquette team? Obviously pushes us to a 2 seed. We need a strong BET
Ask coach Hurley and a #2 seed isn't guaranteed. The championship DNA was nowhere to be found and we lost the Big East Regular Season title to a team with 19 losses. Let that sink in.

.-.
Meh, go win the next 9. Do what needs to be done and they'll win. Don't and they won't.

Today they let a bad team shoot over 50%, while epically bricking from 3, turning the ball over, and in the last 3 minutes losing on the defensive glass

At least they made their free throws.

Lol right when it felt like the media narratives of Dan being the devil himself was starting to change. Sure this will be a fun media cycle

At least when we lose a 2/15 matchup it won't be as embarrassing as losing a 1/16
This is the first thought I had too. Ha! Then I felt guilty. I still love this team. But Psychologically I do think this team performs better under the radar.

As

The denial some have on this team and how they were constructed is simply unbelievable. Creighton didn’t wake you up. The near catastrophe’s in conference. Today. Nothing gets through.
Denial of what? The development we hopes for doesn't appear to have happened (at least not in Big East play).

What you want me to do exactly? Panic and whine like you? Is that helping the team progress in some magical way?

I'll give it a try. Perhaps if we all let the poor play of the UConn men's team ruin our lives on a daily basis through panic, worrying, and randomly yelling at people to "wake up" that will prove to be the key that carries the players through to a national title.

Well, that sucked. I'm not entirely shocked though, coming after a week off playing against bottom ranked opposition is a recipe for ye olde trap game.

That said... wth man. Karaban wasted several seconds at the end that just might have mattered. Our shooting #s were gross. Turnovers were gross. I don't want to bash Malachi but he plays like he's 5'1".

I’m salty, but I believe there was some ego involved in regards to just having a system and culture that was superior. He waxed poetically about it to anyone who would listen. But you still need versatile players within that system. We went from having starting lineups with two or three creators to really a lineup with none last year and one this year. You can run the greatest stuff in the world, but you still need players who can make some plays and get down hill. Some said earlier, why didn’t we penetrate and go to the hoop more since our shots weren’t falling? Simple answer is we can’t.

They won't lose to 15 seed or 16 seed in the NCAAT. But they could end up having to grind out a 2nd Rd win.
They just lost to a team that is going to playing golf by Friday! Play like this and they'll lose to the Little Sisters of the Poor...

That wasn't getting called at that point unless it was egregious. It looked like Gold may have slightly dipped his arm and got him but in real time he looked pretty vertical to me. Just Hurley venting over finalizing a face-plant against the worst team in the league, lost regular season title, and lost one seed in that one play.
What was Gold doing in there at that point in the game? He played with 4 fouls for over 10 minutes... They could not drive on him and get him to foul out?

They obviously practiced FTs in their week off, but not much else.
