Marquette Game Cancelled

Unless the UConn twitter folks don't know the difference between cancel and postpone, the Marquette game won't be rescheduled. If it is to be rescheduled, someone needs to point out that difference to those at UConn.

Whatever the case, bummer...

Someone needs to tell Marquette what the difference is, because in their press release they state the game is “canceled,” and that “the conference will attempt to reschedule the game at a later date.”

You're right Deacon, it will be rescheduled. There are two full months to the season, if they can't fit it in then they are idiots. If this starts something, they should be thinking to get every game possible on the schedule, and not finding another date for this game , or any game or team for that matter, not smart. We will see this game later on.

As for trying to arrange a replacement game with a top 10 opponent like Baylor, this would not be advisable. We need to get our injured girls back first, and it will take a couple games for them to get back in the flow.

Yes, and the UConn website and tweet restated what now seems to have been an error. That the game might be rescheduled is great news; that the folks at UConn had simply regurgitated Marquette's apparent error wasn't handled well. That should have been double-checked before posting on UConn's website (even though it has thankfully since been updated).

This probably happens again at some point. One thing we do not need right now is a covid problem. The confluence of 1) metro area east coast, 2) home for the holidays, 3) airport travel and 4) the most contagious covid strain in history is not good. This strain is 3-6 times as infectious as earlier strains. We will have cancellations again in all likelihood. The team that manages covid best has a huge strategic advantage. It may be that we get this behind us sooner than southern teams, for example.

If we are getting all semantic about this: the game scheduled on the 29th has been canceled and not postponed. A make up game may be scheduled at a later date but as of right now, it has not happened.

A lot will depend on how crazy the season gets and how many games have to be canceled and how many of those canceled games can be rescheduled - there are no guarantees on anything this season.

Bad news is this wont be the last cancelled game. [ ]

Bright side extra practice to get those injured bodies more rest and ready for a tough game against a good DePaul team

Those who value the consecutive loss streak will perhaps be concerned that
our next game following the loss to Louisville will now be DePaul - a more
challenging opponent than Marquette.

IMHO the powers that be HAVE TO reschedule the Marquette vs UCONN game (or any other conference game) because it is a conference game and if not rescheduled it could effect the seeding for the Big East Tournament!
Any other non-conference game doesn't have to be rescheduled as it just effects the overall record!

Why the euphemism "COVID issues?" Doesn't it mean that someone on or with the team tested positive?
I hope it doesn't include "we are afraid."

This sucks, I don't need a repeat of last year when I was checking ESPN hourly on game day, praying that the game would still be played. People in this country better smarten up if they want things to get back to normal. At least in the Northeast we seem to be smarter than some of the other parts of the country. No offense to them, but too many of them just don't want to do the right thing. I think playing most of our remaining games in the Northeast is a positive. Unfortunately, I had to say Most.

I live in NYC, where the mask and vaccination efforts and mandates are about as serious as you can get. Right now, according to our medical administrators, we are in the midst of a tremendous surge in infections. Also in the rest of New York State. Don't think that makes us dumb or uncaring.Seems like there are lots of breakthrough cases.
We are in the Northeast and I don't think playing the games here would make any more sense than most other places.
Before I get jumped on, I'm vaccinated, boosted and I mask up when asked to. Just hope this wave passes through as quickly and with the least number of fatalities as possible..

...wrong choice of word?

All this solves is that the thread will be locked soon.

Tough thing to post about and I had no intention to single anyone, or part of the country out. Just want everyone to be safe. Happy New Year everyone.
While you say you were not attempting to single anyone, or any part of the country out, your comments sure come across that way. I thought that we were well past these conversations as everybody has decided one way or the other how they chose to handle this situation, and yet some people have decided to be more condescending than others. I am unvaccinated, unboosted, and I have never worn a mask, not even last year when I had a medical procedure in a doctors office where many of the office staff did not wear masks either. I am comfortable that my part of the country has not seen the level of cases as other parts of the country have. Go figure.
