One OOC is not like the other. I just saw the Instagram post from the UConn huskies account bribing students to come watch UConn vs trash Manhattan tomorrow night by offering FREE CHICKEN FINGERS. Mark Few gets it. Build a focused brand. Match your brand against other high profile big market brands. Their OOC this year is incredible. This is how you elevate a program. UConn can't do anything in the short-term about their conference schedule but they sure as hell could improve their OOC. maybe no one wants to come out to the game tomorrow night because you're playing MANHATTAN. Even if it meant more neutral site games play better programs. iron sharpens iron. Enough with the UNH, Lowell, lafayettes of the world.

Put the mountain dew down Benedict and pick up the phone and get better games. you likely have a top recruiting class coming in next year with a solid core coming back. schedule accordingly.

Ya, want more of a big boy schedule. Hopefully starting next year.

Fans also want their team to excel and that can only happen if they play and beat the best.

Plus Better matchups generate more fan interest regardless of sport or team, that is nothing new and very common.

What we lack in our current OOC is made up with games against Houston, UCF, Temple, Cincy etc. And our out of conference has been pretty damn good so far...of which, we've won 1 game against a quality team. Gonzaga doesn't really have that option. They have to schedule quality opponents outside of their conference. You schedule that many good teams out of conference in our current state, and lose them, and the season is over before conference play even begins. We'll get there soon enough. But Gonzaga has no choice. At least we have quality opponents in the upper half of the conference. That said, I do agree that I wish they pick a few better teams than the Manhatten's of the world. But you can't load up against top teams when you haven't sniffed the top 25 in 2+ years

Gonzaga has the benefit of extra H/H games with only 16 conference games (like the two away games against Creighton and UNC), but take those games out and the schedules are pretty similar. If you replaced Manhattan with Cal State Bakerfield (+100 difference in KenPom rankings), it wouldn't really register with people. Also helps that Gonzaga has been 132-18 in the last 4 years.

Teams like Illinois, Texas A&M, Creighton are great scheduling partners. play in good conferences, will probably knock off a couple conference opponents across the year but will likely miss out on the dance. you replace our kenpom 250+ opponents with three of those a year and the OOC looks so much better.

Not for nothing that promo was not for regular fans it was for students. It’s the Saturday (last day) of finals week and they are trying to get as many students in there instead of leaving for home. I think It was a great move. Most students go home after there last final. Plus you can’t moan that UConn is horrible with tickets and then when they give discounts and free stuff it’s bribing. Get it together dude. Just go watch and enjoy. Don’t worry about scheduling, that’s what Hurley was hired for

Also the majority of the students get in with season tickets. So tickets are paid for regardless. Not a bribe

We all want a better schedule. But I agree with Stain, fans need to attend regardless of who we are playing.

Hell, Kansas was at 100% capacity playing Vermont.

Catamounts would be a more worthy opponent than Morehead St, UMKC, Manhattan, Cornell, UMass Lowell and Lafayette. Do not diss UVM, they are a good team and would give us fits.

2.You flex you schedule depending on the team expectations
Don't hit the guy with Facts. He's on a roll.
Last
year we played
Oregon in Oregon
Mich State ( 30 win Team)
Arkansas
Auburn ( SEC Champs )
Arizona in Tu
Syracuse ( sweet sixteen)
Villanova National Champs
Plus four games as Cinn and WSU both preseason top ten
How many Western Conference teams were even ranked?
Plus Houston I think only Oregon missed the NCAA tourney.
*Just for kicks this year AAC is rated sixed in power conferences in an off year..
The WAC is rated 16 right after the Mid -American

Can't believe anyone is complaining about the schedule for this year when the entire basketball program was blown up and reset (with good reason) in March. They'll fix it going forward.

Also, Manhattan is better than some of the SWAC or Big Sky teams they usually play.
